Pretty sure the general consensus is that he’s our starter

Anyone telling you it’s time to give Fowler the reins probably started watching hockey 3 months ago. Don’t listen to these dumb takes you see everywhere on this sub, it’s likely 14yo kids or bandwagon fans who know nothing about hockey

Dobes has more roomie wins than anyone.
If he gets another 20 games, which he’s earned, he will be a top 5 contender for the Calder too.

  5. Studly_Wonderballs

Dobes/Fowler strikes me as a future Halak/Price combo. Nothing wrong with having two stud goaltenders.

Even if you give Fowler the reigns he cannot play as a starter yet. He just needs time to cook. Dobes for at least 2 years

    Also, Doby is currently 18-5-3.

Dustin Wolf went 29-16-8 his rookie season and I believe finished second in Calder voting, ahead of Celebrini, who is generational.

We have a special, underrated player on our hands here.

Reminder: Buffalo hit at least three posts yesterday.

  9. GasEarly186

He’s always having the time of his life

3 habs player in the race for the Calder (not ranking)
    1.Ivan Demidov
    2.Oliver Kapanen
    3.Jakub Dobes

He had his struggles (same goes for the entire team)18-5-3, 8-1-1 in his last 10. He doesn’t have the best stats BUT he wins games, that’s all I care about. Fowler is the FUTURE, not the present. (If it’s not for Dobes lately, we wouldn’t be a playoffs team right now)

He’s tapping into his deep inner Hasek, he’d flop like a dieing dolphin to make a save.

  13. Dan_Bouha

But a 25 year old rookie. The organization was patient with him, just like they need to be with Fowler

  14. Efficient_Falcon_402

WTF? I had totally forgotten that!

Been a big Dobes defender but I will say yes he is still a rookie but he is also 25 years old. Goalies mature a bit later so he still has room to grow but I don’t think as much as a kid like Fowler.

I won’t say he is a finished product but next year he will turn 26 and the following year 27. Monty is 29 this year. We also picked monty off waivers around the same age as Dobes. He grew but not by leaps and bounds.

IMO Dobes has already cemented himself as a solid back up in the NHL. I think he is an NHL goalie. I don’t know if he will be a 60+ game starter or anything like that but he has a very high chance of being a solid hand and good 1B. If he played on a team like Colorado or TB/FL I could see him possibly being good enough to get to a cup final.

Right now if we combined both his rookie seasons he would be having a Calder like season. He will probably amass over 30 wins between last year and the year before 25-9-6 is a heck of a start to an NHL career especially playing on a team that was a bottom feeder the year before he came in and just coming off a rebuild.

I don’t know how much more growth he has in him between the next 2 seasons but he has the size and heart which you can’t teach so the rest just comes down to learning the NHL rhythm.

Who told you dobes sucked ass?? All i hear all day every day is how montembault sucks ass and should be given no slack whatsoever.

  17. Piccione_Sol

Fowler is just that good. Yes dobes is a rookie but fowler has franchise potential.

  18. Drunk_brother

I remember last years .they had almost the same stat. I told my father that we should let dobes play more cause dobes can become a better goalie . I’ve been watching hockey for a long time goalie peak at 28-29 so monty is at is best and then dobes will become better . I always hope dobes to be number one . Dobes is not need an halak or a price . He doesn’t need to . We need an ok goalie. What he’s offering us . We score 3-4 goal on average . We need a goalie that can let in 2-3 goal in every night . We won’t win them all but be will have a good chance to see the Stanley cup in CH hand with a team like that . So go dobes be the best you can and help us

This season aside, Monty’s always been good at stopping shots that the goalie’s expected to stop (ie, no easy goals against him). But he’s never been great at making clutch saves from sure goals. I think Doby got more miracle saves last night than Monty has his whole career.

Jen Dryden was a rookie in 1972, he already had his name in the Cup.
