I don't know why they would. They're in a rebuild. Do they actually want to start winning?
Foote (like Tocchet) is best suited to be an assistant coach or defensive skills coach, but he shouldn't be in charge of directing a team's system play (5-on-5, PK, PP, D-Zone coverage, backcheck etc.) They gambled that a former player (a really good player) could coach. Tocchet & Foote failed and then they re-up on Foote? Good coaches have to be nimble and adjust quickly in-game, they have to have good instincts when it comes to line combinations and match-ups and realize that hockey is a flow game that's played equally well on defense and offense! Puck pressure and support is what wins consistently. Management promoted him because they wanted consistency with Tocchet's system/structure and because of his relationship with Hughes? So far management's weakness seems to be evaluating coaching talent. Go out and find a proven, winning coach or an young coach with a good winning percentage!
