This is the problem with giving out long term contracts with full NMC in them. If the player wants to be spiteful or they stink, you are in a bad situation. Maybe Drury will learn from this, but I doubt it.
He shouldn't be moved anyway. Good for him to make this a difficult trade. I may be wrong but he doesn't look ready for the trash heap yet.

There is no situation where the Rangers lose in this, even if Bread walks and they get nothing. That would be worst case, don't get me wrong. We need assets for him before he's gone. But if he plays "stick it to the Rags" in all this, we still get his huge salary off the books. Not an option to resign him because he would want another NMC as insurance. We need his salary to patch bottom 6 holes.

He needs to make a move now because the Rangers aren't going to offer him a new contract with the terms he wants next season.

Lafrenier becoming an alternate Captain would be typical of this franchise. Making him an alternate Captain is a reward , not a kick in the pants to get going. It would send a horrible message to the younger players on the team who watch him coast and avoid contact like an ice dancer most games. That kind of thinking on top of the organization’s love of idiotic catch phrases like “No Quit” need to stop. Only winning matters.

If the Rangers are serious on wanting to “fix” Laf because they can’t find anyone to trade him to, they should consider elevating him into a bigger role on the team. They never made him a priority when he was younger and now they are reaping what they sowed so they might as well figure it out however much they can to justify his spot on this team.
Put him back at LW, keep him on PP1, do something instead of just sitting on their hands looking at greener grass on other teams.
I said it years ago and I will say it now.The GM should be fired he put this team together and has failed to even make it a playoff contention team!!
