Both things can be true. Keefe’s systems are not meshing with this group. Our scoring at 5 on 5 has been ranked 32nd since December of last year, just months after he took over. While he is not a bad coach, his systems and inability to change his systems is what’s hurting the offend on this team.
That does not mean Fitz is not at fault. He’s watched this team flounder for months, Palat overstayed his welcome since that playoff series against the rangers, and has done nothing to fix the true issues of this team. He has completely gutted all supporting cast from supporting the team’s strengths to having two different styles playing through one lineup, rather than having a supporting cast that helps benefit the team’s rush strengths.
He has taken away all their strengths and attempted to turn them into a Florida panthers esque team, which is rough and tough and scored greasy goals. They had the makings of being a Colorado Avalanche esque team, which beats out their backend issues with high scoring and nasty rush abilities.
IMO both should go, and basically anybody outside of Nico, Bratt, Hughes (x2) nemec, gritsyuk and a few others should be gone off the roster. Get a bottom 6 that can be effective off the rush, not whatever the hell Glendenning and Lammikko are.

this same basic group of players was top 5 in scoring not 3 years ago.
I’m not saying Fitz is a good GM. He’s made some truly inexplicable decisions and I’m fine with him going, but Keefe very clearly just does not work with this team. Maybe he’s a good coach who can work with a different group of players I don’t know, but I think the evidence is extremely clear that he is not the correct fit here.
