The way you describe Skinner is basically how we always described Jarry. I feel like both teams swapped the same goalie.
Seriously the Pens changed Jarry for Skinner with pretty much the same results ,so not much of a deal really. . If the Pens want a shot at the Stanley Cup get rid of Skinner and find a better goalie.
Not Skinners best night. 1st stinker in a while though.
I was at the game and it was very sloppy. Shea was not good and plenty of poor decisions with the puck by too many penguins. Skinner didnt help either. Man that was a very winnable game and they blew it. Happy to get 1 point but man that was not good. Hopefuly they are pissed and take it out on buffalo.
Arty's trajectory steady but going upwards and he has been consistent as well.
DK hates Silovs and now Skinner soon will be on his list too as only goalie he wants to see in the net is SM, even kid is talented but giving full time No1 job to Sergei would be premature at this point (if that what DK would like to happen)
You're getting Skinner for peanuts at 2.8m. Also all goalies suck in the NHL now. Worry about fixing the black hole of defense that is the first line and get a real RD.
Kulak is horrible and what upside does he bring. Turnover machine. Poor instincts. Avg speed. No scoring threat. Should never be out there in ot. Aside from that ever game we give up a goal with a few seconds left in period we seem to lose
The reality is that Skinner just had a bad game. It's unfortunate that it came when, in my view, we were the better team for that game and, while we did make mistakes, got back to our game for the most part. Need to regroup today and get ready to give everything we have against Buffalo. We have to come away with at least 1 point from that game then head into the break, take a deep breath, use the reset as a head clearer and, on February 28th, get ready for a grind that we haven't seen in quite some time (with the amount of upcoming games). The potential is there, we just have to play to it.
The Pens have two goalies, neither of whom has a .900 save percentage. So yes, two starters means no quality starters. How would you project the Pens to beat the Isles 4 out of 7 if the standings hold with the goaltending matchup? Sorokin will steal one, Skinner will blow another, and NYI can probably manage to win 2 of their own accord. The good news is that PIT has still proven to be tough to beat in regulation and playoff OT is regulation hockey.
Is 87 gassed? Shame on me for saying this but, he made some questionable decisions yesterday, including that late tripping penalty.

Skinner is a great Beer Leaguer. No business between the pipes of a serious NHL franchise.
Bad timing to say this but he needs more starts. Especially recently, he played Sunday 1/25 and then didn't play again until Saturday 1/31. And then a couple days later on Tuesday. Wayyyy too many days between starts to get a real rhythm
The Penguins were better team frustrating .Skinner not good ,but by way Jarry not playing well in Edmonton either. The Penguinsbbest goalie is in Wilkes -Barre and we all know it they have 4 goodlines defense been better im no expert But i think Murashov could be very very very special
I’ll say it again, goaltending is about rythm and consistency. Hard to get into either if you’re playing every other game.
I’ve come to the conclusion that when a fanbase is split on whether a goalie is good or not, he’s probably just not that good. Some great goalies that backed a lot of bad teams come to mind. Lundqvist, Price. Their teams weren’t always great but you never doubted the goaltender.
Need to pull Skinner when he's having a bad game.
Put the Lisotte line out to start overtime. Pens go out there looking like they expect to lose. Get an immediate charge. And put Chinachov and Kindel on the #1 Power Play. The future is here.
Can we stop over glorifying Skinner? He had a good run, as every goaltender at some point in the season does. Dont forgot Silvos started the season with a shutout and everybody thought he was a God or something. Skinner isnt bad by any means but hes really no better than Jarry. Theyre both hit and miss at every point in the season and can run a streak and lose a streak at any point, but theyre no Dominator. Stop over glorifying this guy, hes a middle of the run goalie at best. Dont forget before this streak, all the talk of goaltending was moving Jarry to make room for the youth to have an opportunity. Suddenly this Geezer comes in and has a few decent games and everybody is thinking Stanley Cup finals. Need I remind everybody that Edmonton blew two cup finals because theyre overrated and their goaltending sucked? This guy is not God, now maybe you see hes only a mere mortal. You can all glaze over this guy but I'll never be sold on him. He should be quality trade bait at best.

Neither goaltender is consistent and it will be the major problem if they miss the playoffs.
I am really worried that this season is going to go. “poof“. And go up in smoke. You know like The penguins will turn into what everybody predicted they would be. Last place.
Rakell is a much bigger issue than goaltending. And Crosby also didn't play well. Skinner was screened on one goal by his own teammates. And the OT goal was a breakaway. There were other goals that were simply well placed shots. Good goaltending never beats a perfectly placed shot ever.
I don't think it is being talked enough about how poorly the top line is playing defensively this season. I know people hate the +/- category, but this is pretty telling and also not a fluke…

— The take your pick on rotating wingers around Malkin with Mantha/Brazeau/Novak/Chinakhov have combined for 53 EV goals, and they are a combined +34 on the season

Only positives are Braz scoring, Kindel still great, Chinny being a steal, and they're up 1 pt with two games in hand on NYI.
As long as they get a point or two against Buffalo, no matter how, I'll forget these two last games happened.

Jarry is doing the same right now he just got pulled acouple nights ago. I don’t regret the trade at all at. Hopefully Silvos can keep playing well
One thing I’ve noticed quite a bit over the last couple of games is that Malkin has turned into a turnover machine. The whole team is playing a bit different.

Hey DK, I agree and disagree at the same time. I see some lazy play and bad habits creeping back in their games while back in their own zone. I do agree with some bad goals are getting in, but the other teams are getting some great looks and timely looks. It was another night of watching the first line defend instead of produce besides the garbage goal. This team rides the high of their first line and where are they, this was a much better game by the captain but Sid has not been good for about 5 games, he just hasn't put in the effort or been good enough. Sure having Rust go cold and then suspended hasn't helped, but having Rakell bring absolutely nothing to the games, especially over the last five has killed the line. He lost every battle, lost every possession, flubbed every pass and shot, and seemed to be pushed down on the ice at the conclusion of every play? What value is he out there? If Dubas wants to pull the trigger on trading Rakell, he should but any takers? The team has taken subtle steps backwards lately, and it's chiseled away at my belief that they can hang with a top team for a seven game series. Hoping to be real wrong, but I'm calling out the Olympians on the team who are mentally already in Italy!
I think y’all overreacting just a bit. As typical pens fans do. We were 13-2-2 in the last 17 games coming into the game against the Sens we had a bad night there it is what it is and then tonight I do somewhat understand the frustration tho since there’s so many good teams in the east and Columbus has been on an absolute heater lately I get it. Seems like nothing ever good happens against the Islanders tho. Everytime.
DK I agree with you…I don't think this has anything to do with Skinner, they did it with Jarry and all goalies this year. I think the better goalie is Skinner, Silovs is not a #1 goalie, he's a great back up, Skinner has more ability to be a #1 (whether he is quality or not that is a different question). The fact that you don't just let him be #1 speaks to not treating this season with the intent to win….winning has happened and it has been a by product of career years of half of your roster (all cast aways of other teams) and solid years by your vets….but I Continue to believe that the plan is not to win, winning happens great. That for me is an issue
I think Skinner is way better than Jarry. He's very calm in goal and not flopping all around and he can stop more shots when he isnt playing great just because of his size. I think you can blame the Defense in general much more than Skinner. Pens have a bunch of marginal D men. Even Karlsson is a liability out there at times. as is Letang
