What exactly did we give up for this person

  2. theminidevil1

There goes our palat money thanks tom

  3. MountainBaker8217

its for a prospect and a mid round pick. but they haven’t revealed the prospect or the pick.

  4. deltacosucks69

Why is Fitz allowed to make trades still. This team isn’t making the playoffs. Bjugstad stinks. All Fitz knows how to do is add TRASH.

  5. crazyFlyingChicken

This is why Fitz needed to be fired ages ago. We need to be selling, but because Fitz is still here, he’s gonna buy to try and save his job. He really just traded for a 33 year old dude who has a whopping 7 points on the year at a 1.75M cap hit lmao

  6. NYDevilsFan

Why hasn’t this GM’s phone service been cut off yet?

Buying while missing out on playoffs for a depth center.

Congrats Tommy Boy for sitting on your hands in the offseason and counting on PTO Glendening to be your 4th line center.

  7. Kornja81

So instead of getting a top 6 player, Fitz constantly tries to bandaid the 4th line with unproductive playere……

  8. TheNightRain68

Another old head that can’t score? Thanks Fitz giving up another pick in a lost season!

Can this clown before he does more damage

  9. HockeyNightinJersey

Pick and a prospect for a guy with 7 points this season. Tom fitzgerald asset management at its finest!!

  10. NoThisIsIdyl

It’s not like this is an awful trade in isolation (depending on the exact pick), but it’s kind of a nothing move that wastes an asset when we are in no position to be doing so.

  11. BurnerAccount374

I wish this sub could understand how long I’ve wanted Nick Bjugstad to be a Devil, for no other reason than he’s a random big center. I have been obsessed with Nick Bjugstad for years. What a day this is.

« We need bottom-6 production, so I made a deal for a guy who has scored 6 games this year and scored 8 last year »

  13. Bettorthanyou11

Crazy these guys still have jobs

  14. SergeantTushFinger

Why is he even allowed to pick up the phone to make trades.

  15. blade430

This is the result you get when you keep a lame duck GM.

  16. TediousSpark

This guy has no clue what he’s doing

  17. MartysBetter29

Fitz should not be making any personnel decisions. Lame duck.

  18. Standard_Strategy

Lmao play ourselves out of a better pick and still not make the playoffs. Fitz look at the standings please.

  19. Having Fitz around this team should be treated as a war crime. Unless there is another move to be made this makes as much sense as extending Markstrom.

  20. Johnborkowski

What has Chuck Fletcher done to Fitz since being advisor? This feels very Flyers-esque.

  21. MikeGS6789

Bordelau and a conditional 4th going to St. Louis.

Edit: According to Ryan Novozinski on the livestream he’s doing right now. Speaking of the Devils on youtube.

  22. nachos_16

Why did we just trade an asset for this garbage can ?

  23. rapier999

Remember when we were one of the youngest, most exciting teams in the NHL?

  24. nostradamefrus

It was for Bordeleau? I thought we liked him in the system. Haven’t kept tabs on him though

  25. Additional_Egg7024

Absolutely a trash deal and doesn’t make any sense unless another forward is hurt? I mean bjugstad does fit the criteria for slow skating play style …. 🙄

  26. BurnerAccount374

Bjugstad is 6’6″. He is 66th in the league in faceoff % for guys who have taken 250 or more. The signs were there.

  27. Alternative-Plan1376

A lot of negativity, but I like this move. Wanted the Devils to sign him in the offseason. Signed through next year too

  28. Turtalytics

Probably doesn’t move the needle much, but to be charitable, the Devils’ center depth has been a mess for a while now. Doesn’t hurt to have another guy who can be a depth center.

  29. CrippledGoose316

This makes absolutely no logical sense whatsoever

  30. artestsidekick

Lol. Almost a similar return to get Panarin. Should’ve gone for Artemi…

  31. Healthy-Increase-403

Just a useless trade, doesn’t move the needle at all and it’s simply too late. Fuck Fitz

  32. I mean it’s fine, he does improve the 4th line a bit. But the focus should 100% be on next season, and moving Palat’s $6M from next year’s cap was a good start. But now we have Tsyplakov and Bjugstad locked in at $4M total through next year. So that’s better, but I would rather maximize our cap space and make some legitimate moves. As bad as it is this season, we will have cap space to sign a big name and some other pieces if our GM can actually make it happen

  33. falaris

I mean… I think maybe Fitz got value in the trade RIGHT NOW because Glendening drags the team down when he is on the ice, but the fear is Bjugstad will decline next year as he keeps getting older and we’re still in mostly the same spot. We’ll see though… maybe it works out.

I don’t hate it, it is a small fix/tweak/upgrade since really anything is over Glendening right now with how he has played during the regular season. It doesn’t mean we’re making the playoffs but it may be one of those small things that helps next year.

I don’t really consider this « buying » as if to help the team this year. We didn’t go get some top 6 winger… we got the depthest depth piece. Fitz should absolutely be *actually* selling before the deadline though – or really it should be his replacement, but maybe they let Fitz sell with a short leash until the deadline since he is a pretty shrewd dealmaker.

Realistically, I like Tysplakov and Bjugstad for $2m less total next year than another year of Palat. The late round picks don’t really matter to me compared to a little better bottom 6 depth + $2m still freed up.

Fitz, Keefe, and basically the entire management, scouting, and coaching staffs should be fired nonetheless.

EDIT: Also it helps we can move those two guys more easily in trades if needed going forward over the summer or next year compared to the difficulty of moving Palat. You never know what will happen.

  34. sanbaba

I mean at least it’s a nothing trade, but it does worry. Why does Fitz feel this does anything..?
