Other than the first 4 min of the 3rd period, that was a pretty perfect game.
It brought redemption to my new Brock Nelson jersey after the debacle of the Flyers game so I can now continue wearing it to games with no obvious jinx in effect.
I will say that there were too many Sharks fans in attendance but I think we’ve beaten that horse to death with the Red Wings game already. We’re a transplant city and it is what it is. And we won so its all good.

That crazy bouncing puck goal…wtf

I wonder how the Avs will do after such a long break. They typically don’t do well after long stretches.

One other thought and I know its a contentious one…the Sammy G whoopsy. At the game, it looked really bad…to the point where my immediate reaction was « oh no, Sammy »…followed by « shit shit shit, no, dammit…FUCK »
Watching the replay after I got home, it looked just as bad. Just shit luck and a defensive blunder.
That said, I dont see us finding a better 6th D than him overall. And its important to remember he’s our 6th D.

Glad the Avs are going into the Olympic break off a win. Hopefully some time off/rest/ playing a different system for the guys going to the Olympics will help reset them mentally for the power play. Gives the coaches a lot of time to go over tape and try and figure out something to get the PP going.
Really excited to see all the Avs representing at the Olympics and hope everyone stays healthy

Glad January is over. This team needs to reset after the break.

I think the first 3 months of the season spoiled me and set unhealthy expectations.
We’re not going to dominate or look good in every game. Or even in 85% of the games. Other teams will adjust and figure us out.
We will regress to the mean.
I think we’re going to drop a bunch of stinkers every few games. We’re also going to get flat out dominated from time to time.
Happens. Will happen.
I still do think that over a 7 game series, this team is very unlikely to lose 4 games. Even less so, once Landy and Necas are back. LOC is just a bonus at this stage.

I had a moment of realization last night. Sammy G is the Avs’ Riley Moss. He plays behind some of the best defensemen in the entire league, Makar and Toews. Moss plays next to PS2. Girard ain’t Makar or Toews, just as Moss ain’t PS2. They have their weaknesses but they’re not some dogshit caliber player that their haters make them out to be. They are serviceable and sometimes great players and that’s *fine*
I just find it so incredibly weird how the fans who hate on G or Moss only seem to come out of the woodwork to comment on how much they suck. If he gets traded and we get an upgrade then cool. If not then I’m also cool with keeping him. I’m not going out of my way to shit on my own team when I could be rooting for them instead, even when we’ve been faltering these past couple weeks. Every player on a team from superstars to AHL callups make mistakes that result in goals. That’s the nature of a team sport. My 2¢

A giant Russian becoming besties with two Canadian country boys is by far my favorite subplot of this season
