Three most important abilities for an offensive defenseman…
1. Be a shooting threat from the point. Doesn't need to be a Bouchbomb tier shot, just a threat.
2. Use speed through the neutral zone and gain the opposing blueline so everyone can get setup.
3. Provide a good first pass out of your own zone.
Morgan does none of those things, and really never has.

I feel he's from Vancouver that's a perfect fit and if they choose to rebuild trade Pettersson,Garland,Hronek,Kane,Debrusk maybe Rielly fits because you need to make cap floor. They won't be winners but he could help younger guys grow be Assistant/maybe even captain for a bit. Will be dark times but he can finish his career there.

Riley doesnt fit with the D anymore. It is time to move on. I think we can all agree on. The question is where does he want to go? If he refuses, then they have to adjust his role. Take him off the first line D pairing (Cant recall if he is on it), no more use on the power play, reduce him to penalty kill. Reduce his mins due to his age. Keep him healthy to help keep his value up, and just suck it up that we will have to eat $3-4m of that contract.

I'm so sick and tired of this conversation. Trade Rielly, trade Nylander, trade Carlo, trade Benoit, trade Myers, trade them all. It's the most valuable franchise in ice hockey and they have the smallest balls. I'm just so tired of this team, just trade half the guys away at this point.
