Good for NHL for having a spine, it’s easy to just claim the playera don’t have nothing to do with the country or their leadership. But international play means representing that country and what it stands for

Hahahahhh by these standards USA and Canada should also be banned.

Soon we will ban Amerikkka. I guess no hockey then.

Stupid, let them play, other players aren’t penalized for things out of their control in other countries

Why do this when you don’t know the actual political alignment of the Russian players? If this is really about Ukraine, why not just ban the players that have supported Putin and the invasion (ie ovi) and let those that haven’t play? And if it’s about Russia getting a soft power boost, just have the guys play under a blank flag
Like that would actually shock Russia’s power structure way more than a blanket ban. We’ve been doing this shit for years now and it clearly hasn’t worked

Politics aside, I’m not losing any sleep over this specific tournament. If we go, cool. If we don’t, okay. I personally want to prioritize player safety. If you want my opinion on the matter, if I were asked, I’d say don’t go.
We can do another Four-Nations or host a best-on-best invitational in either North America or somewhere else in Europe. Having multiple cities host different games or have it in Toronto, it will sell tickets no problem.
What cities do y’all want to host a 2028 summer tournament?

This is such a double standard. These players are ok to play in the NHL but not ok to play for their country in the Olympics or another international tournament? This just makes no sense

> NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said Thursday the league would « follow what the international community » is doing regarding Russia and Belarus’ participation in the tournament, which is run by the league.
I hope that this is a typo as the NHL definitely doesn’t run the Olympics tournament.
On the topic, at the end of the day, IOC runs the entirety of the Olympics. There’s no way IIHF allows Russian athletes if Russia is still banned by the IOC.
