  1. RALEIGH, N.C. – Eric Tulsky, General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has signed goaltender Brandon Bussi to a three-year contract extension. The deal will pay Bussi an average annual value (AAV) of $1.9 million per year through the 2028-29 season.

In celebration of Bussi’s extension, the Carolina Hurricanes Foundation will make a $10,000 donation to the Autism Society of North Carolina. Bussi’s younger brother, Dylan, has autism, and Brandon’s goalie mask is a tribute to Dylan meant to raise awareness.

« Before we brought him to Raleigh, Brandon had been successful at every level from the USHL to college to the AHL, » said Tulsky. « Given the opportunity at the NHL level this season, he’s proven to be a winner here too. We are thrilled that he will continue to provide a steady presence in the crease for this team into the future. »

Acquired on waivers from the Florida Panthers on October 5, 2025, Bussi has appeared in 27 games with the Hurricanes this season, going 23-3-1 with a 2.16 goals-against average and .908 save percentage. The Sound Beach, NY, native made his NHL debut against the San Jose Sharks on Oct. 14, earning a 5-1 victory. He recorded his first NHL shutout on Nov. 30 against Calgary, and matched a franchise record with nine consecutive wins between Oct. 30-Dec. 19. Bussi has become the fastest goaltender in NHL history to reach 10 wins (12/11 at Washington, 10-1-0), 15 wins (1/6 vs. Dallas, 15-2-1) and 20 wins (1/29 vs. Utah, 20-3-1). He currently ranks tied for third in the NHL in wins (23) this season and second in the league in goals-against average (2.16, minimum 18 games).

Bussi has appeared in 111 career AHL games with the Providence Bruins, going 63-31-13 with a 2.61 goals-against average, a .915 save percentage and eight shutouts. He was named to the AHL’s All-Rookie Team in 2022-23, after earning a 22-5-4 record with a 2.40 goals-against average and .924 save percentage. Bussi played collegiately at Western Michigan, where he was 46-25-5 with a 2.61 goals-against average and .910 save percentage.

  13. __dopaminergic__

And the Foundation with a 10k donation to Autism Society of NC – class

  14. bkn6136

That’s cheap, but also sets him up to get a ton of money if he plays at this level over the life of the contract.

  15. FatAssOrangeRhino

Everyone that bought the Bus goalie merch is stoked to hear this

  16. brian428

Insane deal I was expecting it to be much more.

Every NHL forward knows the dream. It doesn’t matter if he plays in the Atlantic, the Metro, the Central, or the Pacific. It doesn’t matter how good his hands are, quick his release is, how many highlight reels loop on SportsCenter. When he closes his eyes, the rink appears. The lights flicker and he boards stretch impossibly tall. The horn blares once. Wrong. Warped. Red siren lights flash like an alarm no one else can hear. Then comes the sound.
An engine idling. Diesel. Menacing. Rhythmic. From the tunnel emerges Brandon Bussi.
No longer a man. A Bus. Colossal and haunted. Headlights burning where eyes should be. Goalie pads fused into rusted steel doors. The Canes logo smeared across the grill like a curse. His mask grins where the windshield belongs. May Slavin have mercy.
Every forward tries the same thing in their nightmare. They dig in. They accelerate. But the ice turns to asphalt beneath their skates. Their composite sticks warp into pool noodles. Their hands feel like they’re melting inside their gloves. The Bus revs.
“DEAR BUSSI,” echoes through the speakers.
The crowd rises as one. “BUS-SI. BUS-SI. BUS-SI.” The sound rattles their ribcages and the try to shoot over the defining noise
Blocker save. Another angle. Glove save. Wraparound. Pad stack. Impossible saves from impossible angles. The net shrinks. The crease becomes a crosswalk painted across blacktop.
And then the realization hits every single one of them at the exact same time. They do not have the right of way. The Bus is on schedule.

    **HONK.**

Across the league, forwards wake up in dark hotel rooms and quiet suburban homes. Hearts racing. Sheets twisted. Score unchanged. Somewhere, Brandon Bussi sleeps peacefully, engine off.
And in living rooms, Olive Gardens, and the deepest corners of GDTs, Caniacs everywhere stand in solemn unity and whisper the sacred words:
    “Thank you, bus driver.” 🚌❤️

  18. NedThomas

Everyone is gonna give Tulsky credit, but gotta commend the Bus for such a friendly deal.

  19. Aeromae

    LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOO

Honestly fantastic value, dude could have gone FA with the numbers hes put up, glad hes staying here

  20. MrPhilLashio

Great deal and they’ll make at least a quarter of that on Bussi merch now

  21. PlatypusOld257

Everyone saying it’s cheap but I think it’s a great deal for both parties. He’s still a risk, goalies are black magic sometimes. And for him its probably 5 million more then he thought he’d earn in the league. He’s also young enough for another contract in 3 years if it works out.

  22. WarmCucumber3438

Why does everyone think this is so cheap? Pyotr’s contract is only 2 mil a year. I think it’s a perfect deal for both sides.

  23. UnderqualifiedITGuy

    ‼️LETS GOOOOOOOOOOO BOYS

  24. bennjeff

That AAV is so good that I’m shocked Bussi agreed to it. Thought he’d get 3+ million easily

  25. cblguy82

Great deal for everyone especially knowing we are now carrying 3 goalies. Let’s ride this bus to the big show!

  26. Billy420MaysIt

My earlier prediction was well off the mark. I’m happy for that. Expected it to be a lot more but I guess he knows that this might just be lightning in a bottle of a season and he could fall off so this gives everyone an out with no worries about being buried in a ridiculous contract.

Bussi loves Raleigh and we love him.

  27. ripinpeace12

Potential steal of the decade if Bussi’s performance maintains at its current level.

  28. wildwildwaste

Solid contract for what’s basically a freshman tender. His follow-up contract, if he continues to perform at this level will be significant.

  29. ___questionable___

Awesome! Next do Nikishin please and thank you 🙂
