@Canucks de Vancouver

Kuzma : Leur intérêt pour Elias Pettersson s’est accru avec le match de deux buts du Suédois samedi pour la Suède aux Jeux olympiques, et les Kings disposent d’un plafond de 15 millions de dollars.

Wired: Canucks trade for Kuzmenko and bring him back to play with Pettersson again.

That was 2 goals playing with two of Swedens best forwards, I dont think hes getting any better, doesnt seem like he can generate his own shot or drive play regardless so if the package is decent and no retention,  id probably go for it

A 1st, 2nd, and I guess a guy like Brustewicz ain’t that appealing unless it’s purely about getting rid of the contract.

  4. Muntberg

Ah yes, a single game will surely change someone’s opinion on a 7 year contract.

  5. iDontLack

Byfield, Clarke, Cihar, 2 firsts 🤝

  6. I feel like LA as a destination makes a lot of sense.

I have a hard time believing something like this. Sure the goals showed Petey still had some jump in his feet and a decent eye for shooting. But it’s one game. That said, this kinda thing seems to come up all the time, be it 1 game, or 1 week, or 10 goals in garbage time down the stretch…it happens frequently enough that I feel like it has to be true.

  8. Aggravating-Rush9029

They have $15M this year but next year they have less than $16M with only 11 forwards and 5 defense. If they brough in Petey they’d need to re-sign Kuzmenko, re-sign Brandt Clarke (23 year old leading their d in production playing over 19 mins a game), and bring in 2-3 spares at league minimum for a total of $4.2M. That’s just not doable.

They’d need to get us to retain or they’d need to shed a lot more salary next year to make this work.

It really depends on whether Petey wants to waive, but his wife used to live in LA, so maybe there is a chance. I can see Petey enjoying the LA lifestyle too. This might be the Canucks best chance to unload that contract and officially part ways from the 2024 Core.

Kings are very interested since this is a buy-low candidate and Kempe is probably having a good time with Petey at the Olympics now. It will be a smooth transition and Holland can gamble on Kuzmenko-Petey chemistry.

Just getting rid of the contract and player would be enough of a return

The Canucks are in a period of transition between eras. The Hughes/EP40 core era is absolutely over.

We are now in the mini pre-draft era where we make additions by subtraction, trades for picks and prospects.

The post draft era where we build up a (hopefully) competitive team over a few seasons.

Pre-draft it would be ideal to see EP40, Garland, and maybe even some other guys go. Plus management, I don’t think Aquaweenie has the balls to do it, but ideally that front office (who promised success with the Hughes core) needs to go.

I honestly think the Kings are truly not interested in Elias and so is Elias even though he has ties to it he seems comfortable up north or east area it’s like a weird vibe situation like he knows what LA is like and doesn’t jive with it and likes the Swedish feel Vancouver has . Iunno that’s my two cents don’t at me for it.

  13. Icy-Pomegranate-5644

How bad is your pro scouting that one game against Slovakia made a difference lol

  14. PaperweightCoaster

If we can get out of that contract without retention, I’ll drive him to the airport myself.

  15. oldboy22

True: Elias Pettersson’s trade value is not particularly high.

Also true: We are entering a multi year rebuild and have absolutely no reason to trade him now unless we get an attractive offer back. Even if he doesn’t improve his level of play, as time goes on the years on his contract go down, the cap goes up, meaning his trade value is likely to improve over time. To an extent, this puts us in a position of leverage over teams that are interested in him now.

Opinion: If we execute all of our “rebuild” moves now, it will only encourage ownership/management to see this as a quick 1-2 year turnaround. We need to focus on moves which maximize players’ trade value over a 2-5 year period, which in some cases means holding on to the player and giving them opportunity to play big minutes.

  16. BeardedIntrovert_76

Basing your increased interest on one Olympic game. What could go wrong?

  17. MagiksSon

Byfield may not reach his peak there, two guys who maybe need a change of scenery? 👀

  18. mikeo8575

Do not trade him to a divisional rival. He will haunt us with 5 point games for the rest of his career lol

  19. ToyStrecher

This league is so stupid. One 2 goal game gets you automatic interest by teams

  20. No_Status6697

Is Petey prt of the next great competitive Canucks team? No. Is there anyone else on the roster who could play 1C? Also no. Do we have a prospect trending to be a 1C? Also no. Are we going to draft a player this year expected to be a 1C? Also no!

  21. Strict-Caterpillar38

I assume Byfield is off the table, and Greentree was already dealt for Panarin, so I don’t see what pieces LA could offer that would be enticing enough, unless it’s just a boatload of picks.

The amount of stuff reporters make up just to have something to write about

  24. WeVeeReality

I don’t care if it takes three years. Just don’t sell low on Pettersson. (It won’t take 3 years though). Next year’s draft might be better than this one. Just don’t sell low.

  25. Short_Air3011

He’s still the best centre in the whole organization for at least 3 more years. Why rush to dump a guy who isn’t going to get a good return when they have no depth at centre. The canucks need to boost the values of all their veteran wingers and that won’t happen playing with sassons or Kampf

  26. Professional-Rip7395

If one two goal game vs Slovakia while be assisted by the likes of Filip Forsberg, Lucas Raymond, Victor Hedman & Erik Karlson has somehow raised his value enough to get a good ‘futures’ return, do it asap.

  27. MadCard05

Honestly, free Petey at this point. He deserves better than being tasked with dragging the Canucks carcass around while ownership refuses to actually rebuild.

  28. I think a package of Byfield+ makes sense, only if it’s under the guidance of someone else other than Foote. Malhotra having played the position would be better adept, in my mind, to teaching the centre ice role to Byfield.

Probably better understanding and I can see it as a coach-player relationship that would thrive

  29. maddiedea

LA probably interests him since his wife grew up there and she will have more influencer opportunities in LA plus having her family around when they have a family
