Just one in a long line of reasons.

  2. Nomad_0024

I thought he wasn’t allowed to be added to the roster anyways at that point?

  3. Hilarious if the one time we reasonably shut down a player due to injury it was an incentive for him wanting out.

  4. mithtified

The guy didn’t want to be a Canuck, bottom line end of story.

I’m sure time will heal all wounds but right now, fuck em’.

  5. maddiedea

Considering he missed a few games straight after the 4 Nations, he was obviously still injured. But if it was entirely his call, he would have played hurt for the 4 Nations final. Its kinda selfish. I don’t understand this anti-Canucks sentiment that Quinn/His buddies/USA press are trying to paint over this incident. Quinn was definitely not playing his best hockey before the 4 Nations as he missed a lot of games for 2 separate injuries.

Everything always circles around the medical staff. How they handle injuries, players, treatment, rehab, etc. etc. It’s always a total disaster and a danger for the players involved.

That Hughes thought he could play but the Canucks said no is obvious on its face.

  7. rough_poop

This is revisionist history, Quinn missed games before and after Four Nations

  8. EpicRussia

Remember at the time, Canucks were in a playoff position and Quinn had missed several spans of games not only due to his oblique but his hand also. This wasnt a bad call, especially on short notice and without really talking it through

  9. mikropjm

i think we need to stop coming up with all these reasons and just accept the fact that we made the playoffs 2/6 seasons he was here and were 32nd in the league by december. not sure why he would stay even if they let him play in four nations.

  10. Thin_Pangolin4480

Don’t be stupid. You really think letting him play in 4 nations would have changed his mind alone about the complete shitshow the team was in for the past two years? It’s very simple why he left. He’s a superstar that wanted to make the most out of the one life he has by playing on competitive teams. He already spent 8 years here, and it was obvious the team was not just one, two, or even three pieces away from giving him that.

People really need to move on with the whole Hughes saga.

  11. phantomgiratina

I thought management gave Quinn Hughes the decision to play or not for that final game?

  12. EverySecondCountss

Toxic ex vibes. Dude moved on real quick. Yall should too.

  13. dogguy444

Hughes is gone. Lets stop doing the what ifs. Who cares? Hes gone. Lets focus on the young prospects and players that want to be here not some over privileged American who really didnt want to be.

  14. BrodyCanuck

This is straight up the exact opposite of what was said back when this all happened. The Canucks management said they told him the decision is up to him, and Hughes confirmed that, and everyone said Hughes made the decision to not go

  15. Muntberg

Nah this is stupid. We could have rolled out every red carpet possible and offered him part ownership of the team and it wouldn’t make a difference. He wasn’t gonna stay.

  16. DizzyBreath5625

he talked about this a few months ago and said he wasn’t blocked by the canucks to play & he ultimately decided not to bc of the previous injury and he wanted to focus on a playoff push although it was a rly hard decision. he talked about it in his 32 thoughts interview

  17. Hellosweetparadox

Who is Quinn Hughes all I know is quitter Hughes

  18. Ktowncanuck

Who cares. The Canucks would’ve been well within their right to say no. He was injured and it was essentially a meaningless tournament

  19. bc_bourbon

Quinn was leaving the Canucks regardless. I never saw him staying.

  20. Paavali31

Among other things yeah this was probably a factor.

  21. Used_Art_1077

He wasn’t able to be added to the roster anyway.

  23. Straight_Climate642

Let’s move on from Quinn. I know it sucks but this fanbase has to move on

  24. coldbrew40

is quinn driving this narrative or whoever wrote this article? this isn’t true as he missed multiple games before and after with injury, and he said a few months ago that “jim and patrik were very respectful” and let him make the final call. he also hasn’t played quite the same ever since this injury, so it clearly wasn’t nothing.

  25. WorkingFit5413

There was an interview at some point can’t remember where, where he does admit he did want to be there at the games, and kind of hints that the Canucks were the reason he didn’t go. I remember hearing a tinge of resentment in his reply.

The minute someone starts resenting something, it is very very difficult to repair that. Whether the resentment is founded or not. It usually means the relationship is one of sacrifice not compromise, and that cycle almost always leads to relationships ending.

I kind of think that this may have contributed in part.

But these are all armchair assumptions from me and I have never met the man, so who knows.

  26. Only-Nature7410

Canucks are not it. They have no superstar or elite talent outside of Hughes when he was here. He saw it. He was not about to bet on what was here.

The Impress Hughes to Stay Program failed miserably.

    Cant blame him one bit.

  27. AgileWork2022

A team has to protect their best asset. He was injured at the time.

  28. eexxiitt

This is one of the rare instances I would side with the Canucks. Based on the # of setbacks before and after the 4nations cup, he was not healthy to play at the 4nations nor was he even healthy at the end of the year.

  29. makeanewblueprint

    Sorry Queen, we don’t care.

  30. sayros28

Among other things, probably. No shortage of reasons to get away from canucks. City is beautiful though.

  31. Canucks management have messed this team up should fire everyone of them start from scratch

  32. LucariusLionheart

I dont think it was one thing or another. Quinn was commited all the way until the end. A soul can only take so much punishment until it gives out entirely

  33. Confident_Zucchini97

At this point, knowing how it all played out. Does it even matter? Ultimately, who cares .

  34. cannmann10

Quinn missed a prolonged time after the tournament, he was such a shitty captain

  35. blundell183

Only Quinn knows the answer to this question. But the fact that he was injured already before 4 nations and was still injured after. Should be enough to say management made the right call one way or another. Why would you let your star player play injured? If he was healthy he would have played. I’m tired of these excuses of why Quinn left. He’s gone. Get over it.

  36. OkKnowledge846

Does anyone think if the Canucks “allowed” him to got, he’d be a Canuck today? I think he made up his mind that he would leave one day, the minute he was drafted. What would have changed his mind? Canucks being contenders and even then he’d have left if they’d won or didn’t win a cup after a couple of years of trying. The other thing that may have kept him would have been if the Canucks drafted one or both of his brothers. He was great while he was here, but he’s gone and was likely never going to stay. Im just pissed now that he has all those records.

  37. Downtown-Refuse-1390

If quinn was being controlled by canucks org he wouldnt have been so kind to go about the trade that he was involved in. I don’t think he was cleared to play so they didnt want him to play, and thats fair from any organization stand point

  38. littlegooseling07

Just move on from the guy already.
