This commercial has been a running joke in our household, several months back this commercial was on, me being slightly drunk said « Why’s he just standing there with his eyes closed?! » And my GF interjects « Umm… Hes blind » (which I did not know mind you) and my response was … « BUT HE’S RIDING A HORSE?! »… soooo now anytime this commercial comes on, either my GF or one of our boys will say « Why’s he just standing there?! » And another will say « BUT HE’S RIDING A HORSE? »

Unpopular opinion but I’m going to miss the ad. Con Te Partirò is one of the human race’s all-time bangers and I love when I hear it during sporting events.
First time I ever heard it was when I was a kid. My team had just won their last game of the season and with that, my favorite player was officially retiring. He was a fan favorite, had a spectacular career, and had been a crucial part of the team’s biggest moments.
Right after the post-game broadcast ended, the network aired a celebration of his career/thank you video set to Andrea’s Con Te Partirò. Highlights of his best plays, his most enthusiastic cellys, his hugs with his team, the works. It was beautiful. And me being a 10-year-old knowing I wasn’t going to see him play again, I held it together just long enough to see the whole reel and then ran to my bedroom and bawled my ass off.
The song’s stuck with me ever since. It’s epic, it’s powerful, it’s melancholic, and when paired with sports, it captures the intimate aspect of competition that very few songs do.
Maybe the ad was overplayed, but getting to hear that song during breaks when my Canes were playing brought back a memory I hadn’t thought about in a long time. So yeah, the ad’s alright with me and I hope Andrea kills it tonight.
And if anyone from the Canes broadcasting team is lurking here and sees this message and decides to take inspiration from it for when Jordan Staal retires, just know that you’re probably gonna bring a grown man to tears.
