Just imagine if San Jose had won the lottery, and instead of Miss, we'd have to deal with them having Celebrini and Schaefer for the next decade plus

Even as a Rangers fan, I'm super jealous of the Isles for the stud they have in Schaeffer. He has, in his rookie season, shown more potential than Laf or Kakko have in their entire careers. I don't know if it's bad luck, bad development, both or something else, but man I wish the Rangers could develop a single draft pick. Drafting goalies has been another story, but besides that it's been miss after miss. Also can't lie, it's hard to cheer against the kid.

i think coming into the season the plan was to move lee and jiggy at the deadline, and potentially resign lee after after the season for a discount. but then matthew schaefer happened… and now i think they hang onto both of them and try to win a few rounds. imo darche tries to package the last pick in the first round that they got from colorado with a prospect or two for a winger that can score.

The 3 games coming out of the break will be telling. If they lose three in a row many fans will yell, "sell!" This is not a win now team and the PP has to be better to make a real run. I'd get assets for Lee and Pageau and look for a run in the next 2-3 years.

I think wasting a Vezina level season by Sorokin and a record breaking 18 year old season by Schaefer by not adding at least another piece feels short sighted. You might never get these chances again.
Worried with the power play being down in the league
The worst contract by a mile is Mayfield, arguably 1 of the worst D man in the league. I never miss a game, been a fan for 45 years and no player in our illustrious past has drawn my ire more than him, bot even Brian Strait!!

As an Islander fan the thing that gives me hope that they can get in just has been their consistency. They haven't been a huge story because they haven't had a crazy winning streak or a crazy losing streak. Meanwhile as crazy as a run the pens and jackets have been on as late you also know that it's not sustainable so we're gonna be left wondering what the team looks like when they inevitably come back to earth and how long until then.
I think if the Islanders just playing with that same consistency they have a good chance of making it in.

If Sorokin is locked in, he can bend the will of an opponent. Schaffer makes every team mate better. If Palat can reclaim past excellance, why not the NYI?
The Isles are too inconsistent to be a playoff team in the crowded Metro. With such a bad PP and offense, the goaltending and defense won’t be enough. They’ll probably stay right in the playoff race until the end, but with teams like Columbus chasing them, I think they’ll fall just short.
Well there's a perfect example of why you should'nt take "analysts" too seriously. The islanders are playing extremely well and their third in their divison. But the odds are only at 40% ok sure, I hope they make that look really stupid.
Lets wait to see if they make a trade at the deadline. They play their best against top teams, and seem to play down to lower teams. That has to change. And just to add about your comment about no to many teams win 4 in a row, most likely last to do it in todays game of free agency. Hard to even 3peat, last team to do that is again that Islanders team.

The Isles make it to the playoffs, defeat the Penguins in the first round (Sidney Crosby was injured in the Olympics). Then they get eliminated by the Hurricanes, like every other year,
I think we hold on and make it. Wouldn’t shock me to see them miss with a terrible second half but they have played well and the team is rejuvenated with Schaef. If they miss the playoffs it wouldn’t be shocking because of the competition. Cheering for the boys, hopefully they keep the spot. If not that’s fine we have Schaefer and that’s enough of a win.
