Je pense que nous devons recalibrer un peu les attentes concernant Carson Bjarnason.
Il a 20 ans et environ 0,886 dans la AHL. Ce n’est pas une catastrophe, mais ce n’est pas non plus une avance sur le calendrier. Il a été sélectionné pour ses outils, sa taille, sa moitié inférieure solide, son utilisation en chevauchement, sa capacité à sceller le bas du filet, et non pas parce qu’il était un produit fini. À l’heure actuelle, son parcours ressemble plus à une courbe de développement lente (pensez au début de Stolarz, moins les blessures) plutôt qu’à une évasion rapide. Et c’est très bien.
À 20 ans dans la AHL, vous allez voir des changements. Il a déjà montré plusieurs jeux .940+, donc les flashs de plafond sont là. Le problème n’est pas le talent, c’est la fréquence des soirées au rez-de-chaussée. Et quand vous regardez le calendrier, beaucoup de ces matchs difficiles ont eu lieu pendant des périodes où Lehigh accordait régulièrement 4 à 6 buts en équipe. Il n’est pas encore au stade où il peut effacer le chaos devant lui.
Si son suivi s’affine et ses lectures s’accélèrent au niveau professionnel, l’avantage est toujours bien réel. À 6’4″ avec sa mobilité et son contrôle du pad, il y a une projection de départ légitime si tout clique. Je ne pense tout simplement pas qu’il soit encore là, et cela ne veut pas dire qu’il ne le sera pas. Les gardiens de but ne sont pas linéaires. Certains se stabilisent à 21 ans, d’autres à 25 ans. Curieux de voir comment les autres voient sa chronologie.

In 2023 the Flyers drafted Bjarn at 51st and Zav at 87th.
They both are doing fine, Zavragin more so.
They haven’t drafted a goalie since.
They drafted Kolosov in 2021 (78th), Errson in 2018 (143rd) and Fedotov in 2015 (188th).
Do we think they take another goalie this summer?
I’m guessing there’s a good chance they do, tho they’re probably quite pleased with Zav and Bjarn.
I thought maybe last summer with all those 1st and 2nd round picks they had that they might’ve taken one, but they didn’t.
I don’t think anyone’s super high on Bjarnasson here tbh, he may be a fine goalie but Zavragin is the only notable goalie prospect with a chance at being elite for us
How the fuck have we not at least fallen Ass-backwards into an elite goalie through the draft in the past 30 years (that we kept, don’t make me relive the Bob incident). Somehow, our broken clock isn’t even right twice a day.
He’s 20, like 3-4 years out from when goalies usually crack the NHL. I think this is pretty in line with the fan expectations of him. he’s a step below zavragin but could potentially be a solid starter.
The Flyers are on a 20 year development curve, so who cares?
I wouldn’t be surprised if they take a goalie in the 2nd round. Honestly I think it would’ve been fine to take one in ‘24 and ‘25. Might as well take more dmen and goalies when you’re rebuilding.
I imagine they want a scenario like this: 1) veteran NHL goalie starter. 2) young NHL backup starter. 3) veteran AHL starter. 4) young backup AHL starter. 5) young goalie overseas/CHL/NCAA . 6) young goalie overseas/CHL/NCAA. 7) random extra goalie who they still believe in.
My moneys on them not taking a goalie this year but this front office is hard to figure out. They may even sign a veteran this offseason
Are people seriously freaking out over a 20 year old goalie? He started well and then had a rough stretch, but he has plenty of potential to be a solid starter. Zavragin is also a genuinely elite prospect.
