Matthews: happy to play an unglamorous shutdown center role to help the team win, contributes an assist as well.
McDavid: trying to be a hero, forcing plays that aren’t there, gives it up on a solo mission in OT right before America scores.

You gotta think Mcdavid is just going to sign a 1 yr, 1M deal to w/e the top team is in the NHL when he is a UFA to get a cup. His legacy right now is just curse city.

Man, you gotta feel for him. Two straight finals losses and then losing this game, including the turnover in OT. The amount of pressure on him is insane. I wouldn’t be surprised if he just leaves in a few years to pursue a cup down south.

I recognize McDavid was showy and a bit careless at times.. But we can focus on a dozen factors and scream about fault until we’re blue in the face.
I’m wondering who the Olympics outcome will motivate more? Matthews with his gold to push the Leafs into securing a wildcard slot, McDavid with everything to prove (especially now) or you know, neither of their games or stats sway drastically.
