Comes off a bit salty, understandably. We all know and have seen that an all-time performance by a good goalie can make the difference between a loss and a win no matter the stage and stakes.
Bold statement from the guy that missed a wide open net. Canada looked like the better team for most of the game but the US capitalized when it mattered.
Boldy’s goal was ridiculous
I’d say the scoreboard can be the judge, Nate. That’s what it’s there for.
Ok Mac going forward goals and almost goals now count. Teams will also be awarded style points for amount of shots and offensive zone time.
The best team *in this single game* capitalized when it counted. Canada dominated and had some awful puck luck, but the US held on and got the goals they needed to win.
That’s the game. That’s also why professional hockey championships are a best-of-series. Bad calls, missed calls, lucky/unlucky bounces average out over a series.
Not the case in the Olympics. It’s do or die. The US won because they got the job done.
I can understand his frustration but Canada had chances to put the game away multiple times and didn’t.
That is also part of the game.
Canada carried play for two periods but not the scoreboard.
Goalie is part of the team too.
The best team didn’t miss a wide open net. Just saying
There’s already a simple way to judge, it’s the color of the medals.
Aside from his game-winner earlier in the knockout stage, I thought he had a very underwhelming tournament overall.
After missing the potential game winner point blank, Mack fails to be gracious in defeat.
Don’t miss empty nets
This is weak sauce Nate.
Hellebuyck is a part of the USA team, they were better and beat us
We might have been the better team if he’d have put the puck in the almost laughably wide open net
You are my dawg Mac, but you have to be a little bit honest with yourself. THAT should have been a goal.
Tough take when you miss what would’ve likely have been the game-winning goal on an open net.
Sometimes a goalie steals a game. Connor Hellebuyck played one of the finest games in the history of USA hockey.
America played well. They played against Canada and used their strengths to win. They did a good job killing a 5 on 3 for more than 90 seconds and Hellebuyck was a force to be reckoned with. I get that everyone expected Canada to win but it’s crazy to me that everyone is just dismissing how well team America actually did play in favor of pointing out a missed shot which USA had 2 or 3 of as well.
This screams, « I’m the kind of person that complains and argues about ref calls on social media. »
The team that scored 2 goals was better than the team that scored 1 goal.
I learned this Olympics that MacKinnon is a bitch.
The salt is real in that comment.
Too bad “being better” doesn’t determine the winner; scoring more goals does. Crybaby shit.
That empty net chance he had is going to be a demon for the next 4 years for him.
Team that killed off a 1:35 5v3 powerplay?
Loser talk
Dude was -2, missed a wide open game winner and had a front row seat for the golden goal because because he dogged it.
The final score is the judge of who was better 🤷♂️
Coming from the guy who had two wide open nets and failed to score on both of them
The team with the most goal, the only metric that matters.
This is so stupid and pure salt lol. The goalie is part of the team
I’m a Canadian, and I will say I hate it when players or fans say “oh well we were the better team we just ran into a hot goalie”.
The goalie is part of the team, you win the game by putting more pucks in the net than the other team. You weren’t better as a team, you lost the game.
I will say though, fuck 3 on 3 overtime in an elimination game, if OT was 5 on 5 there was a better chance of Canada winning.
I’m gonna say it was the team that won.
I understand he is upset and not used to this – but what a stupid take.
I don’t care if you are better ON PAPER.
It only matters what happens on ice.
I love Nate Dogg, probably my favorite player. This is exactly why he’s not the captain of the Avs lol that an Landy
The better team is probably the one wearing the gold medal.
Listen I’m not stupid, Canada did dominate the whole game and clearly appeared to the eye as the better team. But as someone whose coach once was clowned for saying we weren’t swept when we were swept in four one goal games that we played very well in, the scoreboard is all anyone will remember tomorrow, a year from now, and 50 years from now.
It actually is very irrelevant as soon as the golden goal for the other team is scored, and saying this crap to the media is very much being a sore loser
Better team? Yea, Canada was smoking us offensively most of the game, but if you can’t convert a 90 second 5 on 3, and miss a clear open net, you’re gonna struggle to win the game
The team that didn’t miss three wide open nets?
I’m gonna go with the team with more goals
You don’t get moral victories in the Olympics, buddy.
Score board says….
Americans after 4 nations: Congrats canada, damn what can we do better?
Canadians after the Olympics: wah wah we should have won cause we muh muh. waaaaah i tried to score goal and… and. mwaaaaaaaah mwaasaaaah.
