What curse? Is there a curse I haven’t heard of?
I think the real question is if Mackinnons going to be in the lineup when the NHL starts back up.
He looked injured all olympics
I dont watch the Avs, but they need a name for their goaltending tandem that references wood if they dont have one
"The Wooden Gates of Colorado"
Not after that game by MacK and Makar – whatever ghost was haunting Quinn Hughes is going to be haunting them instead
Celebrini and MacKinnon are gonna be traumatized by their chances to win it all today in Milan. That means if they meet in Round 1, we have ourselves a good and nerve-wracking series.
Anyone who believes in the "President's Trophy curse" does not understand statistics on the most basic level. A lot of people seem to not fully grasp that there is only 100% to be divided among all possible outcomes and for this reason grossly overestimate the statistical likelihood of a favourite actually winning.
If all 16 teams had an equal chance of winning the playoffs going into it that would translate to a baseline 6.25% chance of winning the Stanley Cup. Looking at all the seasons in this century, from 2000-2001 to 2024-2025, the team that finished the regular season first overall has become playoff champions four times, which translates to a 16.67% chance – almost three times as high as the baseline. That's quite clearly not a curse.
This sample size is of course pretty small so random events and outliers can skew the stats quite a bit but even so we see clearly that there is a correlation between performing towards the top of the league in the regular season and winning the Stanley Cup. No team finishing lower than 13th overall in the regular season has won the Stanley Cup during this period; teams finishing in 10th, 11th, 12th, or 13th have managed it once each; no team has won after finishing 9th. That's a total of only four champions in 24 seasons from the bottom half among the qualified playoff teams. The chance of winning if you finish the regular season in 9th through 16th is lower than the 6.25% baseline just as you would expect.
This of course means that there is an equal overrepresentation at the other end where most of the regular season placements from 1st through 8th show a greater than 6.25% chance of winning the Stanley Cup. The exceptions are teams that have finished 3rd or 6th overall who only have one win each. The 3rd placed teams are in other words the most underrepresented as champions – presumably this would correct itself if the sample size was in the thousands rather than a couple of dozens. 4th placed teams actually have the most wins and a 20.83% representation as champions. Next come the President's Trophy winners with one fewer wins at 16.67%; 2nd overall teams with 12.5%; and 5th, 7th, and 8th all at 8.33%.
(No, you can't derive from this that it's better to finish 4th than 1st.)
I am fixing the Avs power play with excel. It WILL be fixed!
Its a shame minnesota has to knock out dallas round 1 and colorado round 2
I think MacKinnon might be haunted forever and never win any accolades again
How do the Avs manage Nelson winning Gold while MacKinnon, Makar, and Toews won Silver?
I think the Avs go all the way to the final, but lose in 6 games to the Lightning.
When it comes to contracts being a MN follower and fan! The parise suter thing was way too much! So if it's 3-5yrs ok beyond that feels sketch!
It was wild watching the olympics. I would flinch every time a team got a penalty against the US, and then relax remembering Im not watching the boys in bergundy and blue lol.
Really hope silver doesnt get to Nates head. We all know how entense he can get
Well as long as we avoid 3 on 3 play we should be good. Ouch.. Too soon?
Canada losing could cause MacKinnon to go off for the remainder of the season
Yes the Avs will benefit, but if I was coach I'd go very light on Mack/Mackar/Toews/Nelson's minutes the next few games, even if it means losing. I think they are SPENT. Nate is/was sick as hell too.
Avs-Tampa Stanley Cup Final 2022 rematch
Great jersey great hat great video
Go Avs go!
Do you think Makar, MacKinnon and Landesgog are ready hungrier now? Yes… yes I do.
If you saw the look on MacKinnon's face after the game that should answer your question.
Colorado looks unbeatable. Being a vgk fan I'm worried about us and Colorado in the conference finals. Miracles fo happen. But only if there's a major injury to Colorado .
This is the one vid I think will be dead wrong due to the Canada result, can't say that Mac and Cale being on the ice for the two worst moments for them won't mess with their psyches coming out of the break.
Well it would’ve…
That final was tough on Cale Nate and toews
I am not an Avs fan, but I fully expect Mackinnon to take his Olympics frustration out on NHL teams.
Brock can talk sh*t in the Avs locker room! Hahahahaha!!!
At what point do the avs opponents start taking penalties on purpose to slow the avs 5v5 momentum and maybe get a shorty even
I do have to say you look goid in burgandy and blue!
Big Mac and maker are going to be hungry after that loss in the Olympics
McFarland rocks! Bednar for Adams!
Islanders fan rooting for Nelson to get the ring he deserves this year
Nichushkin has been our biggest wildcard the last 2 seasons
I'm seeing at least a Conference final appearance. Though, I do think Dallas could stop them again if Dallas makes it through Minnesota. Given how they have played all year, a 2nd round exit will be seen as a failure. They can't waste all that talent. This is their best shot since 2022. I hope they pull through.
I mean, half the team was at the olympics, so I don’t now if it’s really a break for the avs. Unfortunately.
I think for prominent injury you could go for Logan O’connor
Ya but Mike Vernon beat the tar out of Patrick Roy
At their current pace I think Tampa Bay might take the Presidents Trophy
It's nice to hear you call Bednar a good coach, considering he is never in the conversation for a Jack Adams.
Well at the start of the season, I predicted Colorado would finish 2nd in the Central…
And I also predicted Winnipeg would finish 3rd.
So I clearly don't know [expletive deleted].
"Best hockey in the league outside of Tampa." And Columbus, buddy boy!
I just appreciate your attention to detail, thank you!
Only other injury really worth mentioning, thankfully, is Logan O'Conner. But he has been out all year and I think mostly just Avs fans truly understand why he would get brought up
Nelson was looking like another terrible contract till mid Nov or something. Some then? Insane… best contract? He’s the best on the second line down. But Makar for 9 is insane… same with Mack for 12.5.. can’t believe he was playing for 6.5m just a year ago.
