Yes, it could
Trading PLD is the dumbest decision unless it brings back a true 1c. The only reason the capitals season needs to be saved is because he was hurt.
My guess is there’s no good trade out there—and the team might not be willing to trade major assets (prospects and picks) given where things look standings wise. So leaning on PLD’s return makes sense, and given his talent and how little he played this year before injury, it is like a deadline acquisition. If we were solidly in the WC spot, I bet we’d be looking at getting someone else too.
