    On Pettersson:

    > His on-ice play has not yet lived up to his $11.6 million cap hit, and a two-goal performance at the Olympics won’t lead to any new optimism about the player. Finding the right trade for Pettersson will be complex. Do you believe he will bounce back from a 45-point (in 64 games) season last year, and a 34-point showing (in 49 games) so far this season? He was a 102-point player just three years ago and is in his prime years. Vancouver will not want to trade him as a cap dump and already has a need for a centre with him, so moving him will require a replacement. It’s a tough balance, but there are teams exploring how to make it happen.
    >
    > Carolina has never stopped showing interest. Detroit and Los Angeles also have a need for a top-six centre and are seeing if a Pettersson deal can work for them. This is kind of like the Quinn Hughes situation where the Canucks could keep Pettersson for good, keep him for now and revisit trades in the off-season, or they could get something good for him now and he’s gone.
    >

    On DeBrusk:

    > Just like his teammate Pettersson, DeBrusk is having a disappointing season for Vancouver, where reaching even 20 goals might be tough do after he scored 28 times a year ago. But at $5.5 million, DeBrusk’s cap hit isn’t too much if a buying team thinks he can recover as a complementary scorer. There is a market brewing for DeBrusk, and the Canucks are very much in rebuild mode, aggressively pursuing all the options available to them.
    >

    On Kane:

    > While the trade return won’t be huge, the Canucks will absolutely move Kane if they can find a taker. His agent, Dan Milstein, has already been given permission by the team to do his own research into trade partners, and so, it would seem, the only thing holding up a move is the lack of a market. That may take right up until deadline day to form, but there is little doubt the Canucks would retain up to 50 per cent on the final year of his contract to get back any asset they can. I’m hearing that Kings GM Ken Holland, who acquired Kane once before with Edmonton, could trade for him again with Los Angeles. I’m also hearing that Colorado might be interested in Kane.

If they dont literally ship out every single UFA plus one or two long term contracts before deadline, these guys are not the right guys in the front office.

  3. LIL_DROP13

I only see three players listed there, hoping they look into Garland, Bluegar, maybe Kampf too

  4. NerdPunch

I do wonder about JDB & Colorado, given JDB’s PP production and Colorados 5v4 struggles. Colorado just moved Girard which opens space, although they may be bigger game hunting.

EP40 to LAK makes a lot of sense, but I would really want the deal to be built around EP40/Byfield (no retention).

    Kane: I donno, whatever.

  5. KenDanger2

Does LA have worse management than us? Real question, because they are far from a shoo in for the playoffs and they are apparently ready to start mortgaging their future for mild (or non) upgrades like Kane

  6. Crazy-Cook2035

Nadeau, Cerrato, Kotkaniemi, and a 1st

Maybe more cap we have to take on

  7. [deleted]

These idiots have absolutely no plan. None whatsoever. It’s embarrassing.

  8. FarmerWinter9997

Wonder if Canucks could pull Shane Wright outta Seattle for DeBrusk +

Eberle and Schwartz both expiring for similar $ and essentially Debrusk will score as much as these two are currently producing now. And he’s locked up.

More points/goals than Kakko and similar to Tolvanen’ digits

    Trader Jim, let’s go

  9. Tough-Application373

Detroit for Pettersson interests me. Obviously we all know that they tried and ultimately passed on Hughes with the pervasive rumour on the Detroit side being that they were unwilling to give up Simon Edvinsson without a guarantee that Quinn would re-sign. Now, Pettersson isn’t getting Edvinsson at this point regardless, but I wonder if the other rumoured piece in that trade Nate Danielson might be avaliable. Something like Detroit’s 1st plus Danielson for Pettersson

Got excited and then noticed it was Kypreos. He’s full of shit

  11. grooverocker

    Music to my ears.

Put up the flags, the streamers, and the crazy-arm inflatable guys up around Rogers and turn the whole rink into a used player lot.

    WE DO FINANCING!

We’ll throw in a new IPad to the first two customers who take a player off the lot.

I don’t give a shit, bring your washed up contracts for a trade-in and let’s make a deal.

  12. Typical-Blackberry-3

Pettersson is going to be a 100 point player for the six seasons after he leaves Vancouver. I hate to see him go, like him a lot.

  13. youenjoylife

What comes back in a zero retention Petersson deal? Canucks shouldn’t deal him for nothing, but also likely won’t get a high price. I think Carolina gives up Dallas’ first round pick + Kotkaniemi to make the cap space work. Detroit has the cap space outright, probably a 1st + 2nd? Maybe a prospect instead, they have Zeev Buium’s older brother. LA has the space with the Fiala injury, would be a tight fit for next season assuming he gets healthy, would love to see Cihar come back this way after his performance at the world juniors.

  14. Zylavier

Who cares. These guys are drawing up clicks

  15. ApartSupport2707

uh huh im sure kypreos knows anything about anyrthing related to canucks

  16. BlastMyLoad

Oh it’s just Kypreos so it’s likely fake

  17. muchonacho

I’d trade Kane for future inconsiderations at this point

  18. Icy-Pomegranate-5644

Fiala – pettersson – panarin would answer the winger question tho

  19. Striking_Ad_4562

I have a hard time rationalizing the Red Wings angle. Can someone shed light on their motive/rationale?

With the Kings I can see they made a move for Panarin and maybe want to go for it before Kopitar retires.

Carolina has historically had interest in Petey as they have had trouble getting over the top.

Just not sure where the Red Wings fit in.

  20. EpicPotato806

Collect first round picks like Pokémon cards.

Gotta get them all. And try to bait them into being unprotected picks like Ottawa did with San Jose in the Karlsson deal

  21. niht_awl

between Car/Det/LA, I think Carolina has the higher end prospects. I hope we can land Nikishin but I’m fine with Nadeau.

  22. Duffbagg

I still think there is just no way to reasonably get an appropriate return for Petey at this point in time. The contract is too high, too long, and too onerous for another team to be interested in giving up a good haul for it and it also has too much time remaining for the Canucks to want to retain a significant amount of salary on. Plus, as it stands, the Canucks really have no big incentive to move the contract just for the sake of moving it, we still need *someone* to play first line center minutes, even in losing causes.

Regardless of your thoughts on his play this year (and personally I think his game has been fairly strong), it clearly hasn’t been $11.6m good, so genuinely who is silly enough to pay a premium for a negative-value asset at the full heft of his anchor contract? I mean, I guess Ken Holland is probably pretty close to that silly, but even he must have limits… right?

  23. Jinxy2k_

I just want to watch competitive, meaningful Canucks hockey man. I’m so tired.

  24. sleep_m0de

Get the MAGA bitch the fuck out of Vancouver yesterday. As for Petey, if they do trade him we’re really going scorched earth but at this point whatever.

  25. No-Reach3106

Petey is a 50-60 point player at best for the rest of his career and I would bet good money on that. Getting a 1st+ would be a slam dunk at this point. Anything more than that would be pure robbery. Let’s get these Swedes out and some based Canadians in.

  26. Initial-Ad-5462

Someone actually might want Kane? Get on it, Allvin.

  27. Bigking00

People need to realize that Kypreos might have the worst sources in hockey, maybe 1 in 10 things he says is remotely true.
