For some reason, I expect the Flames to lean more left. Kadri, Huberdeau, Weegar, Backs don’t really scream MAGA to me.

To be fair, I wouldn’t say that everyone who goes to the White House or went to the state of the Union necessarily supports Trump; or that everyone who abstained opposes Trump. A lot of athletes are relatively young and likely not overly political, and might just want to take advantage of a once in a lifetime opportunity.
My father really disliked Nenshi as the mayor but he was invited to a banquet with him on his 25th anniversary with the city. It wasn’t just my father, there were dozens of people who were honored for their long service to the city. My father went, was polite, and had a good time, and the politics never came into it.

I totally thought trump was serious about keeping the gold medal they put around his neck. Just like Putin stealing Krafts superbowl ring, birds of a feather and all that.
This whole ordeal makes me glad that all the Flames jerseys I own are either blank or have my last name on them. While they’ve probably always been weirdos, it’s become very clear that the majority of the NHL is like this. The fact that pretty much that entire US team was giddy to go along with everything despite the implications is probably what the rest of the league looks like. I’d bet 90% of players are freaky MAGA and have appalling views on the issues of the world.
It’s tough because I like to associate with things that align with my values. Music is my favorite interest besides sports, and my favorite artist is Bruce Springsteen. I don’t have to worry about Bruce being on the wrong side of history. Yet how can I cheer for athletes who I would probably have to cuss out if they started talking politics?
Yeah my Tkachuk jersey will continue to get eaten by moths in the back of my closet… I’m sure there’s a bunch of republicans on the flames too but Jesus Christ this has just been embarrassing for the US team…
My wife’s a Habs fan so she also dodged a bullet since Hutson and Caulfield both got snubbed. I’d like to think they wouldn’t but who knows.
