Its really unfortunate and a bit naive to think or believe that the players that didn’t go chose to not go because they didn’t agree with his politics. Realistically, most players just saw the schedule/upcoming game as a chance to escape the backlash. What I’m at least thankful for is that our players are smart enough to recognize that. Perhaps a shame, but not a surprised with everything.
I could go on and on about this for a couple paragraphs, but I’d rather not because it wouldn’t change anything lol

Welp back on the naughty list he goes.

Ugh jake, you had such a great off ramp opportunity…
Loud-Statistician416
No shit it was a scheduling conflict lol of course he wanted to go.
sdpthrowaway3
Yall will never know if he didn’t attend because of politics, scheduling conflict, or something else entirely. His PR team will always control the messaging. Just move on and enjoy some hockey.

I hope most of you are sitting down when I tell you this, but I would bet a significant percentage of US-born hockey players are conservative.
It might be unfortunate, but you’re not going to change that. If that upsets you, and you’re shallow enough to let that affect your perception of the player, then stop watching the NHL altogether.

W Jake for not making it divisive and political

I don’t give a shit who’s president and what the optics look like if I’m given the chance to go in the White House unguided and hang out and then go see the inside of more deeply historic and treasured buildings I’m going. As a fan of History and Architecture it would be impossible to turn down a once in a lifetime opportunity like that.

He was very clear and concise with his answer. Big props to Jake.

The seesawing that occurs with stuff like this is crazy. Stop looking to these people for moral leadership. He’s just a guy who gets paid to skate on ice. Just watch hockey tonight as it’s intended to be watched, as a distraction from the typical bullshit you have to deal with during the day.
Whatever you do, don’t start thinking about our two best players and if they could share your politics. That will only disappoint you further.
retired_junkiee
If we had another day I bet he goes. I don’t blame him either way but I’m not a big trump guy but also not a liberal so there’s that.

Can we PLEASE stop posting this omg. Who gives a fuck.

95%of NHL players are MAGA/Maple MAGA and I appreciate Jake letting us know he’s among them.

I like less than half of the comments on this half as well as i should like, and I like more than half of the comments half as well as they deserve.
Please stop with the political grandstanding in my Lightning-on-a-streak sub.
Please?

I wish we could all just enjoy sports without worrying about whether the players agree with our politics or not. I don’t really care, I watch sports too get away from politics and the less of this stupid controversy in my sports subs the better
Truly if you care about the reasoning behind his choice whether he decided to go or stay home you are an absolute loser. If a players personal politics matter even an ounce to you idk what to tell you
Excellent_Bus2886
He’s a hockey player why does anyone care what his politics are? Should only care how he plays hockey
