[lang] En juin 1974, Fred Shero se rend à Moscou pour étudier les méthodes d’entraînement soviétiques… et il accorde une longue interview au journaliste sportif soviétique Igor Fein.
Shero: Be advised: I place my bet on smart players who are creative and good at passing plays. I worked a lot to literally knock that stupid, primitive style out of my guys: dump the puck in, skate, pick it up and slap it away.
Our HOF Stanley Cup winning coach literally called dump and case bad hockey. 42 years ago he said that. Wat are we doing here.

Fein: And our defensemen? And Tretyak?
Shero: In truth, your defensemen aren’t as noteworthy. Maybe Tsygankov. Maybe Lutchenko. Perhaps Lyapkin even more, but he’s physically inferior to the others. A defenseman has to be an athlete, after all. Bobby Orr is skilled, smart, and has a shot, but he’s also durable and strong. Tretyak is a great goalie. But right now I only have Parent on my mind. He’s the best in the world. Then there’s Tretyak, Esposito, Dryden.
Wow Shero was really blunt in his assessment – calling their D “not noteworthy” and then calling Parent ahead of Tretyak
