I’m glad he addressed the locker room joke, but he immediately afterwards was “honoured” to be the star surprise guest of a state of the union that was rampant with xenophobia, transphobia, ICE loving and so much disgusting and vile bullshit.
Even if he doesn’t like Trump (which I highly doubt at this point) the very best thing he could he would be a privileged/ignorant spineless coward and I am so heartbroken watching this unfold. I loved being a fan of this dude but I have to listen to the pit in my stomach. This whole thing makes me sick.

As a lifelong Jets fan, I’ll always be proud of the team, and there’s no question that Hellebuyck is an amazing talent who has given this city everything on the ice. But honestly, I’m just so disappointed right now. It’s hard to wrap my head around him accepting a medal and standing next to a man who has actively threatened the country where his own children were born. I’ll always root for the jersey, and I recognize his greatness as a goalie, but seeing a local icon embrace someone trying to destroy Canada’s stability makes this a really bitter pill to swallow.
