What I don’t understand is why a couple more seasons of losing AFTER getting Auston Matthews was really that bad an idea.
It’s been a decade with nothing to show for his time here aside from two playoff series wins (getting in every season). Basically no assets and nothing to look forward to even this season (with our luck, Boston gets that protected pick).
Why does MLSE management insist on essentially “staying the course” when it’s clearly gotten us nowhere?!

Leafs being not close to the playoffs is the only way they make major changes to the team. No playoffs = massive loss in profits. The worst case scenario is a middling team sneaking into the playoffs only to lose 4-1 in the first round.
