I honestly don’t understand this obsession with Canadian players.

Good players are good players. Period.

EDIT: Man, seeing some responses on this thread, people are really butthurt about Hughes and Americans in general. I mean, that’s fair, fuck them, but the point of my comment was mostly about the idea of picking player X over player Z exclusively because of nationality (and I was thinking more Europeans, not even Americans).

EDIT 2: For everyone saying that it’s good PR for Jim to say that, that’s more than fair and I do agree with it.

Worrying about a hockey players nationality is dumb. I didnt see any Canadian players with the gold medal in hockey this year.

I like the commitment to the rebuild. But players can be of a winning pedigree no matter what nationality. Players like Kopitar and Barkov are as competitive and well rounded as any Canadians you can name.

  4. Canadian players with dog/work effort would be outstanding, man that would be fun to watch.

This guy is starting to sound like any one of us on r/canucks the last 2 to 14 years… Better late than never i guess

Virtanen, Reid Boucher, Leipsic, Kane it is.

Monkey paw gonna curl so fucking hard for u bozos that think this is a good strategy.

You acquire whoever you believe will help this team win. Nationality should never have anything to do with it.

In before they don’t draft McKenna and pick another Swede

It’s a solid plan, regardless we’re going to need to be at least at the CAP floor, so for everyone hoping that we unload all of our big contracts…if we do this then we’ll need to be big buyers in Free Agency….which i don’t mind as long as we aren’t giving 4th liners 4-5M contracts just to get to the CAP floor…

I also don’t mind going after Canadian Players but the key is players that want to play in Canada long-term, regardless of the country that they’re from.

Beautiful. No more softness, time to get some players with passion

Add some Eric lindros, Chris Pronger, Wendell Clark’s, and throw in a Brendan Shanahan.
    Yes that will do nicely

If you want to make noble statements, do it properly. Invest more in Canadian youth hockey. This’ll lead to more, and better Canadian players that are loyal to your brand, and increase your overall fan base. So many kids don’t even get a chance to even try hockey these days. The elitism is kneecapping the sport.

Is petey a cornerstone…. »no ». That should be all this fanbase needs to know to understand what needs to happen with that boat anchor going forwards

Better not be the Jim Benning “meat and potatoes” special please. For example: see Virtanen, Jake.
