    > “I think it’s a little bit unfortunate how it’s taken the shine away from, one, the greatness of the women’s team, and what we did — first (U.S. men’s) team to win it in 46 years,” Larkin said. “I think all hockey fans, especially American hockey fans, know that the Canada (rivalry), those games that have not gone our way, and the fact that it went our way, in the locker room we were just, (it was) such a whirlwind, and we have a guy in there, and (he) said the president’s on the phone.

    > “There’s a little bit of regret, but obviously we were in a tough position, and I think the women’s team knows that we supported them and we were cheering passionately for them to get the job done, and they did it in exciting fashion as well.”

  2. It’s not a perfect response, but he’s not doubling down at least. It’s sad that that’s the benchmark in 2026.

The Team USA boys have had days now to stake their support behind the women’s team with no uncertain words. The fact that they aren’t doing that speaks volumes to me. I know some people here won’t agree with me but it’s disappointing especially with not only the Michigan connections but our own hometown captain as well. I’m proud of what they accomplished but let down by the fact that their courage is so selective. They had so much heart to win that gold but none of it came back home with them

These guys just lived out their dream and got an invite to the White House as a team, something they may never get a chance to do again. the women have stated they still feel wholly supported by the men, there was never going to be a unified front against the president, I think it’s time we all just move on.

Oh, yeah? What about « Kash, we’re live. Come say hi »?

I feel like people blow things way out of proportion and jump to quick conclusions without much evidence. With all the emotions and things they were feeling the last thing they would have been thinking about would be politics and trying to make a stand against the president

  7. UtinniHandsOff2

In a few years all of their photos from the white house with the pedo president are going to be about as memorable of a keepsake as the ones all of the Oscar winners took with their EP Harvey Weinstein throughout the 90s.

  8. wolverine_1208

I think actual hockey fans outside of Reddit world don’t care about any of this and see this non controversy for what it is. Nothing

  9. jewllybeenz

Super unpopular opinion: All of you would go to a dinner at the WH for a dinner in your honor. I understand orange man bad, but every single US President is responsible for a ton of atrocities. You can and should be a little upset, I sure am. But, some of you seriously need to calm down

They made their bed now they can lay in it

He’s had several days to get out in front of this and clear the matter up on his own social media if anything happened he disagreed with. This is PR damage control and nothing else. No apology and no real acknowledgment that he did anything he considers wrong. The only reason he’s saying anything now is because he was asked point blank and he can’t sit around hoping red wings social media can gloss over the situation. No wonder Detroit fails the punk test so often if this is their captain’s spine

“A little bit of regret” come the fuck on at least stand on being shit if you’re gonna be shit don’t give me this weak ass wishy washy bullshit

Some terminally online people in comments i see. Not everybody follows politics as closely as them even if you would want them to. They made a mistake. Gave a half hearted whoops and now just need to go back to playing hockey as you would expect an nhl player to do. Don’t confuse athletes with role models and don’t expect them to have your same views on politics or be as politically correct as you want them to be.

  14. WaffleParty404

I mean, it’s great he’s giving a lukewarm statement on the women’s team comment but that wasn’t the whole of the complaints.

Patel isn’t just ‘some guy’, he’s the guy hiding/doctoring the Epstein files so his pedo boss stays happy. Trump is the guy who just threatened to annex the country of your last opponent and you just went to his political event and giddily shook his hand. Larkin is in quite a few photo ops with some pretty horrible people.

You can’t be neutral on a moving train. Fuck that. Booooooooo

  16. simplyljh

why can they never just say « i’m sorry »

  17. gmoney-0725

The criticism is valid. His good play took a hit with that video of him and goofy eyes. I know a lot of people are disappointed in him.

  18. fastballspecial

I’m not sure any reporter or beat writer is asking the right question.

« Why was the pedophile protecting FBI Director in the locker room? And why did you go to the White House to visit a pedophile and convicted rapist? »

Those questions get to the heart of why people are upset. Also… when I typed the word « pedophile » a « temporary ban on politics » message showed up. Pedophilia has NOTHING to do with politics and everything to do with someone’s moral compass. It’s not debatable that it’s sick, disgusting, rotten, evil, and wrong.

I’m glad we got a response. Though it’s certainly not a great one. Don’t we all think this situation is unfortunate? What exactly was tough about their position? My anger has passed but the disappointment remains

  20. Various-Tax862

Why do you guys care so much about it?

  21. calitoej

Keep digging Larks. “In a tough position?” Which time? When you all laughed, or when you snapped a bunch of photos with a pedo protecting, law breaking incompetent FBI director, or when you sports washed a criminal President by shaking his hand and let him parade you around like a show dog on a leash?

  22. justino

Although I think he handled this like an uninformed kid and not a grown man with a child, I think we should be asking ourselves who opened up the room to let someone like that in.

  23. PigFarmer1

You build up all this goodwill and then trash it in a heartbeat. What a nightmare…

  24. telemaster19

I’m pissed at what they took away from us. They took an amazing moment away from a lot of fans and it sucks.

It’s going to take time for me to look past this. I’m a lifelong fan of the Wings and hockey but this really messed me up.

I just can’t look at him the same way; I hope they realize that many of us will never put them in the same sentence as the 1980 team. It’s just so damn stupid

  25. Competitive_Dance478

Reddit mob at it again lol

    Just play fking hockey bud
