He IS. Love Hage but if he hits, he doent hit like Thomas right now and its in 5 yrs. Simple as that. Do the f-in trade !

For Hage? No
Frisbeejussi
He is really good, doubt the management is willing to pull the trigger now with how high the reported ask is.
What gymnastics would have to be made for the cap to even work for this season?

>They can — and might even prefer to — wait and hope for Kapanen, Hage or Zharovsky to become as effective.
Let’s be honest, the odds one of them becomes as good as Thomas are near zero. He’s also under contract long term with a decent cap hit and his age fits with the core.
24Archduke
when are centres this good traded?
Eichel was the last and O’Reilly the one before that?
I bet VGK and STL don’t regret making these moves.
Future-Trip
He’s basically Suzuki.
I would take 2 Nick on my team any day of the week.

Trading Hage and prospects/futures is fine. **But there are reports that Blues are asking for Kaiden Guhle to be included.**
I’m 100% fine with giving Hage + 2026 1st round pick + another top prospect (Zharovsky/Reinbacher/Engstrom or Pickford, NOT Fowler that’s the untouchable future goalie with Dobes)
But Blues want Guhle. Maybe it’s a negotiation tactic, sort of a starting High Ask and work our way down from there, and the Blues just wait to see if we bite, or if Utah bites with an equivalent overpay.
I agree 100% that getting Thomas would fit PERFECTLY with the timeline and prime age of Suzuki, Caufield.
But since our defense is currently league average, losing Guhle AND his excellent team friendly contract would be counter-productive. How would we replace Guhle right now? We can’t.
Plus Guhle is a proven, quality player, GREAT personality and super team friendly deal.

Thomas has 5 years left on contract, relatively friendly $8.1 Million cap hit, was a point per game player, before this terrible year. Lot of positives there.
djohnston02
if the Habs add Dobson and Thomas to the roster in a single year, I will not care what prospects or picks were handed over to get there.
Hands off the current core (inc. Demidov) tho.

I think we have to jump the decision and say yes..
The Atlantic is a bloodbath and I know we are on paper at 85% of making the playoff but I think that not right..
Sabres, Wings and Tampa wont relax… we are in control of our destiny but Id rather we get Thomas now via a overpay and hes confortable with us for playoff.. I feel if we wait and he ends up on the Wings then next year becomes alot harder to beat.. so theres that

You can’t start a post with ‘Canadiens trade___’ days before the deadline bro, come on🤣

The level of World Junior blinders people have on is insane. Thomas for Hage straight up is easily a yes for the Habs. It would be done if that was the deal. Trading a maybe for a solidified star is easy. Thomas is one of about two dozen players who can claim to be point per game players over the last few seasons.
If the script was flipped and Habs traded Suzuki for Hage, the fan base would be furious. Thomas isn’t that far off Nick.

After decades of mediocrity, I really want the Habs to be dominant for 10 years before another rebuild, something like what the Lightning achieved. For that reason I don’t know if I like trading too many futures for Thomas. We’d be very good for 5-6 years but then I think we’d start to see a decline if we don’t have a enough elite prospects like Hage or Zharovsky. Yes, I know Thomas is a rare find and relatively young, but good prospects are also hard to find.

Every brain-dead individual keeps saying « Well it’s not just Hage! » And? So? It’s nothing we’ll ever miss. Thomas would give us top 5 C’s league wide from our current bottom 10

they should take Mešár and a 2nd – Mešár Dvorský line I would like that
Suzuki Thomas 1 2 punch would be lethal and it gives Slaf and Demidov a true 2C(1C) to get better with.

After Hage’s whole story this feels wrong

Whenever I open Reddit, I thank God we have a competent GM.
Habs_Apostle
If Hage (and other not so critical pieces) gets it done, rationally it’s the right move (Hage ‘might’ be a Thomas in a few years!?). BUT I have such a sentimental attachment to Hage (amazing story) that I’m not sure I could do it. Glad I’m not the GM!
CMDR_Traf85
The Habs are 3rd in the league in GF, abd that’s with a secondary scoring group that has been ravaged by injuries and is only now getting healthy. The one thing holding this team back, if anything, is defence.
Yet there’s a rabid group of the fanbase that are willing to throw everything, including one of our best defencemen in Guhle, at St. Louis to get… more scoring?
Is Robert Thomas a very good player? Yeah sure
Would I want him on the team? Yeah absolutely
Does he fill a massive need in the lineup? I don’t think so.
Does he make the Habs a contender this year? I doubt it.
BlankoNinyo
Trading Hage seems like it would bring bad juju. I don’t like it purely because I love the Hage to Montreal draft story and I think he feels destined for play for the Habs.
