  1. The Leafs also don’t have much else prospect or draft capital wise.

I know a lot of us here have wanted Thomas.

Does losing Svech, a prospect (or KK), and a 1st for Thomas make the team any better? I say no. Think it best to try to pry Trocheck back out of NY or ROR from Nashville without losing a name we need. Scared money don’t make money but we are in a good position so unless you’re absolutely sure that Thomas makes the team undeniable, I say pass.

I wonder if they would do 2 1st, nadeau, and KK

This is the equivalent of a front row seat for $1,500. Is it a good seat? Of course. Is it worth $1,500? No, and you won’t convince me otherwise. But Armstrong hopes you’ll do it.

Stepping back and looking at the league right now, I don’t see any team which ‘has our number’ like the past couple years. We have played well against all of the top teams this year.

Do we need that 2C? Yes. Do i think it’s as imperative as the past couple years? No.

Either we get a great deal for someone that truly fills that gap or I think we are locked in for the run.

Honestly, the Robert Thomas contract is kind of too good for the Canes. Like you are paying a ton for that long length low AAV contract, and with our current situation we are not in as much of a cap squeeze who may be competing for him

… why would the Leafs be in on this? lmao

that seems like a big overpay, especially for a team that should be going into full rebuild mode

I just don’t think the Blues want to trade him. Obviously the rest of the league are circling like sharks because the Blues are awful and he’s a great asset to pry away from a bad team. But the signal they keep giving off is they’d really prefer to center a rebuild around him. Hence the astronomical asking price.

I still think ET goes off the board and gets someone like Wright from Seattle.

Like I said on a previous thread: you have to pay to play and you have to be comfortable sending off someone you really don’t want to trade in order to land what fills your most glaring need. Nikishin, Blake, Nadeau, Legault, anyone not tied down with an anchor. Someone’s heart has to be broken in order to make the team better, especially for a top 2 established center on a VERY friendly contract for essentially a PPG player.

…I just hope it isn’t my heart that’s broken and Nikishin is still a Cane after 3pm Friday.

it feels like for us the conversation would start with 1 of niki, blake or stank. i would put niki off limits. and that leaves us with 1 of our 2 second liners on the block which makes sense to me since thomas would slot in on that line. blake/stank, a 1st, and nadeau is probably what they would ask. i would probably do that. i dunno if it’s the smart thing to do, but it would do it. thankfully tulsky’s on it, he’ll work his magic.

This might be a boring take but I’d rather not force a deal just because we really want a 2C. And I say want because I’m not really sold that it’s a need, especially if we give up a big piece with even bigger potential like Nikishin.

I’m not saying something has to fall into our lap to make a deal but it seems like the juice isn’t worth the squeeze in most of these proposed players. Even Trochek, if I’m honest, but he’s one where I would entertain it at least.

Trading Knies for Thomas would be the most idiotic expected thing for Toronto to do at the deadline
