Jesus what asking price for Thomas Jesus Christmas
RequirementShoddy700
York, Brink, 2nd round pick. Final offer
Blev088
You mean they don’t want Luchanko and Nesbitt? I’m shocked, I say, shocked. /s
Micksar
Definitely not a deal I’d want to make. The truth is… we need to draft our own Thomas’

Only 27 more hours of smokescreens left, stay strong fellas!
Scared-Arachnid6286
Yeah, I’m not giving either of them up for a dude whose not even that good and probably is going to fall off in the next couple of years.
RebuildFletcher
They started a rebuild, did not bottom out and are now finding themselves in a position where they are trying to improve and make the playoffs and there’s not an answer to the glaring need at center in the pipeline nor do they have the assets needed to acquire one.
What a great situation to be in.

James Murphy: « The Bruins did look into…Blues center Robert Thomas; it is believed the cost would be top prospect James Hagens, the Bruins’ 2026 first-round pick, and current center Fraser Minten »

Robert Thomas is simply not worth what they’re asking. Period
Flyersfan1980
great news

Yeah fuck that

I refuse to believe this is true

This report wouldn’t be upsetting if this team were a hard seller trying to tank for a top pick, but here we are
Milksteak3919
Thomas isnt even a real 1c, get fucked st louis.
BaconStriips
They are on crack but even a crackhead would be more reasonable
CarpenterVegetables
Just deal Risto and Brink (or Tippett) and I’ll be fine
Various_Knowledge226
I understand that Thomas is a 1C, and is an incredibly gifted player, but for where the Flyers are at right now, trading assets for him does not make sense for the team. You’d likely be wasting his late 20s getting back into a contending position, which doesn’t make sense
nipplesweaters
I don’t think Thomas is worth it but they’re never trading for a 1C without Michkov or Martone being a part of it short of someone pulling a James Harden and forcing their way out.
jayradano
I want what they’re smoking
Stew514
I don’t know why people are so surprised at this, if they’re trading a first line center they want guys back who project as first liners. They’re not looking to turn him into a good 3rd line with Luchanko and Tippett
Evergreen1055
Michkov and Martone are off the table. I’d offer a first, Brink/Tippett/Cates, and Luchanko/Bonk/Barkey. Even that feels like a huge cost. If that’s not enough, then we have to pass imo.
hockeytonkguy
Trade this years first, throw in Luchanko and a roster player. Do you know how hard it is to find a legitimate ppg center under contract in his prime.
Snips_Tano
I mean, makes sense if they don’t want to move him to ask for the stars.
Chuck Fletcher would have given them MM and Martone and our 1st, probably!
eaglesfan0369
Perhaps if we had Buim instead of Luchanko to dangle as trade bait
doc-mantistobogan
That’s their asking price right now anyway. Teams leak this kind of shit to try to force someone else’s hand or make them blink.
I have to imagine there is no GM willing to meet that price for Thomas. That’s insane, even if it is a sellers market for centers
vinny8244
Danny is doing the right thing not entertaining this BS ask. This is more than what was given up for Quinn Hughes who’s arguably the best defenseman in the NHL outside of Makar. I’d rather keep our assets for when someone like Matthews asks out of Toronto and we have a legitimate chance to be in the conversation at that point.

So….
I know we’re not that great at math as Flyers fans….
But …. « top half of the first round » does not mean « top 7 picks »….
What positions were Nesbitt and Luchanko drafted in?
This screams « pearl clutching » in the most literal sense. « I want top half of the first round talent from your organization » and immediately clutching at the top 5 pick player and screaming « don’t take my pearls! »
Meanwhile ignoring the prospects you have drafted in the 10-15 range.

This guy is good, but seriously overrated here. Max yearly points total is 60. Yes, there is more to being a center than points. But for the value currently assigned Thomas, this is a factor. St Louis will probably back off at some point on the ask. But it’s still a huge asking price. This is a deal for a contender willing to overpay and take a swing. Not a deal for a team with an outside chance at the playoffs, and even if they get in, a quick exit. Draft better. It’s almost impossible for a lower half team to simply trade their way into contention.
