  2. oh_macdeath

i regret staying up now… this is a sad day.

  3. Bahamas_is_relevant

    I’m genuinely distraught, man.

I get *why*, a 1st is a pretty damn good return for him at this stage of his career, but he should’ve been a Cap for life. See ya in the rafters, 74.

  4. BlueCrab8

Wow how’d we pull off getting a 1st round for a 36 year old defenseman lol

  5. SpareDot8685

He can resign in the summer , this is awesome

  6. deadm1c3

Sad that Ovi’s career is ending with a lost season. Thank you to an all time great JC 🫡

  7. Ssuzuki7

Ovi and Wilson are all that remains of the 2018 Stanley cup winning roster now I believe, absolutely insane how fast time can fly man.

Great deal getting a first for him. Can’t be sentimental at this point.

AT 1AM?! What the fuck man

There’s gonna be a whole lotta people waking up immediately pissed

  11. brspies

Its a shame they couldn’t have one more « Cap-for-life » from that era, but I get it. I wonder if the fact that its only picks means they want to flip something soon or if this is just the best package period. Ducks have a lot of really young players though I don’t know who would have been on or off the table.

  12. Realistic_Lake2843

Honestly good, we could bring up Cole Hutson and also this frees up cap space in the summer. Ovi and Carlson are like 20 million total in cap

  13. MrYeaBuddy

This is wild considering there were talks just a few weeks ago about extending him.

  14. aairricc

Lots of nostalgia, but this is a great trade

  15. TedLeonsisIsaPsycho

Love to hate him, but sad to see him go

  16. Tufoguy

A 1st and 3rd for Carlson in the contract year at age 36. Not bad really

  17. agave_badger

Woah! Bye John you’ve always been a study. Good luck on the ducks!

  18. flyhi808

My heart hurts, but getting a 1st back softens the blow a little.

  19. Physical-Order

He should’ve retired with us. A first is insane though.

  20. OGConsuela

Hoooooooly shit I did not see that one coming

  21. rjhawkbooks

On the business side, it’s a great trade to get a first for him

On the emotional side, I never thought I’d see the day he’d wear another jersey

  22. domab15

I was just about to go to bed… now I can’t

  23. IllustriousParsley2

Sad to see but understandable and a good return

  24. NKGilly1996

From an emotional perspective this is heartbreaking was hoping he’s retire a lifelong cap.

From a business perspective this is a great return

  25. nico_ostrander10

I was so upset with the Dowd news and now really with Carlson. The one upside I can see is that Chychrun the perfect replacement for Carlson. That trade was great. He Is good offensively and defensively and can really eat up the minutes on the ice while still being younger

Just wish Dowd and especially Carlson could retire CAPS

  26. Table_Coaster

it’s very sad but this is a deal that a well-run organization should always make

  27. DeepVictory

This is a fantastic trade for the Caps. Really should’ve happened last year.

  28. UbiSububi8

    No more Carlzner 🙁

Both sad and pleased – it is a great return.

Reminding myself that I trust the people running this team. They’ve made great moves the last couple of years.

I wonder if we’re shopping now?
