Ovi is 40 years old. The only future we’re heading for here is retirement.
I mean I’d be shocked if this isn’t his last year anyway. Besides that I’d be shell shocked too in his shoes. 17 years as teammates is something very few athletes in any sport ever experience.
Crushing nonetheless.
Yeah this is rough
Man this is hard. Its such a fine line between honoring these guys who have been the core of our team for 20 years, and moving ahead knowing the team still needs to be competitive.
Its kind of like what happened with Tampa and Stamkos. Managers will get some understanding for a year, maybe two, but if we’re bot competitive after that because of choices they made here, their jobs are on the line.
I hope he retires this year not because he doesn’t deserve a victory lap around the NHL, but I don’t think he’s that type of guy……appreciate the next few weeks Either way we are fortunate to have a great player in the DMV and stay with the CAPS the entire time
He literally said nothing 😂
I just fell to my knees at MedStar Capitals Iceplex 😭
He’s done
I’m not going to read much into this. They just traded two of his long time teammates. There is only 1 other player (or coach for that matter) still around from 8 years ago. This has to be emotional for a guy that’s already nearing retirement, which one of the most emotional times an athlete can be at. I’m sure he needs time to process the current reality before he can even think about his future.
I’ve watched almost every Ovie game since he’s been a Cap…it’s time bro. We love you, you made the Caps are what they are, you helped bring us a SC – and ARE the highest goal scorer ever.
But it’s time.
That tells me they didn’t discuss with Carly. I’m pretty sure Ovi would have been in on the loop.
He’s gonna play one year in Sweden with Backie and then Russia for final paychecks.
Anyone thinking they know what’s going to happen is egotistical at best.
I’d bet on this being his last year. It’s going to suck but at this point I think the team sorely needs some new talent injected, we know this core isn’t really winning 2+ rounds of playoff hockey.
I get to see the caps play here in St Louis at the end of the month. I’m going to lose my voice thank g Ovechkin for an awesome career
I really thought we’d make a SC push this season, seeing as how it’s most likely Ovi’s last. Guess not…
