@Islanders de New York

    The days not over yet. I’m sure that’s all the Isles did but there are still quite a few trades that haven’t been officially announced. The Schenn trade for one.

    Lou PTSD is a real and dangerous thing

  3. The Drouin somewhat saved the trade. I am not sure how I feel about holding on to 8m of unfilled cap space though.

    Agreed. I admit I felt the initial panic looking at the return for schenn. But let’s be honest guys, how often does a 3rd or the 32nd overall pick work out? We are better now than we were this Monday. If we make playoffs we can get experience for the kids and be better next year. LGI

    The people who bitch about every thing this team does must be some really miserable bastards. My buddy is an STL fan and he said Schenn is a great leader and will do whatever the team needs him to.

    GMMD has even been the GM for a whole year and people are calling for his head. Fucks sake guys have a beer and chill.

    This allows us to glue Barzal to Horvat even if a center is injured. We’ll run with Horvat, Ritchie Pageau Schenn Cizikas. Wouldnt be surprised schenn play wing for Ritchie and take some of the faceoffs. We still have our 1st round pick this year. I cant be too mad at being interesing amd competitive now and not sacrificing the promising future.

    What I also think is a win people aren’t discussing is the culture shift again. Players actually waiving their NMC or NTC’s to come here. Has to count for something

    What we should be asking is:

    “Are we going for a serious cup run?”

    No?

    “Did we acquire assets for the future for a serious cup run?”

    No?

    “Did we get younger?”

    No?

    “Did we shed potentially bad contracts?”

    No?

    Then WHY?!?!

    Just want to add… we don’t need to solve next years issues at the trade deadline. There is the draft and the entire summer to handle that.

    The doomers are out like the first warm day of spring and they finally have something to complain about

    Looking on Twitter right now, you’d think Darche traded Ekky, Eiser, and Aitch for Schenn 😭😭😭 getting Drouin off the books and replacing him with a guy who’s been producing solid points on a floundering team is definitely not the loss they keep imagining

    * Colorado 1st

    Not valuable. The hit rate on very late 1sts isn’t super high.

    * 3rd Rounder

    Not valuable.

    * Drouin

    Negative value. Get him the fuck out of here. He’s a headcase who Roy knew wouldn’t respond well to being benched and his pointless ice time was bad for the locker room. It’s very regretable he was ever here.

    * Gidlof

    Perhaps 15% as valuable as Gamzin.

    The point this year is to keep the lights on so that we don’t really have to rebuild and get stuck with a room that doesn’t know how to win. We do that by keeping vets around and hopefully getting Schaefer and Ritchie experience in navigating a playoff series. Schenn helps us do that.

    Slightly off topic but this stupid English language needs to do better regarding options for clearly conveying resign versus re-sign; it always throws me for a loop

  14. Mike2k33

    I don’t hate the moves. It shows the room that they aren’t giving up on the season. But I also think these moves are more for development and consistent, steady improvement year over year

    Giving up the Colorado pick and a 3rd isn’t nothing but they also didn’t give up any of the top prospects already in-house

    We’ll see how it plays out

    I think Lee is gone after this year, no? Especially with Palat, Schenn and new JGP deal. Probably some others gone too

  16. patdog987

    I agree! Looking at our prospect pool too: Aitcheson, Eklund, Eiserman and a lot of others—We had a ridiculously good draft last year. A few picks gone is fine because of what everyone else is saying (he’s a leader, PP scorer, hitter). Let’s see what happens!

    I may be in the minority but I really like that Schenn deal.

    He is EXACTLY the kind of player that this team is looking for
