  1. Didnt see that coming today. Wonder what the AAV is.

  2. Adampate27

So is Ritchie move permanently to wing

  3. Can’t believe Lou Lamoriello would extend a 33 year old until he’s 36

Edit: and a two year NTC? Can we fire this guy and hire a smarter GM like darche?

  4. krispykreme37

Are they gonna move Ritchie to wing long term then?

  5. No more than $5m AAV and I’m ok with this

Edit: $4.85m AAV is fine. With how good he is on FOs and the PK, shouldn’t have issues with shipping him out if needed

  6. hopefulbeartoday

He’s an amazing 3rd line center depending on the price I love this

  7. Good fucking lord you bring in schenn to extend pageau?????

  8. noah_dobson

Why are people upset about this before seeing the AAV? Pageau is an elite PKer, faceoff guy, and bottom-6 C.

  9. toledosurprised

it’s like lou never left. got one kid on the roster and said that’s enough of that

I wonder if Barzy and Horvat are going back together.

    Horvat
    Schenn
    Pageau

Not a terrible center situation. With Barzy and Ritchie able to slide in for injuries and shakeups.

  11. This would allow Barzy and Horvat to stay together.

  12. FortyYearTransform

Pageau is great and this contract is excellent, but yeah it makes the Schenn thing mystifying. Moving Lee, maybe?

  13. ArchieInABunker

I like that. He’s a useful 3rd line center who put up 40 points last season. I’m not complaining

  14. IslesDynasty79-83

i truly dont see why people are upset, thats pretty cheap for a player that shows up and is good in multiple areas.

  15. USAJourneyman

A+ I like this team friendly signing

  16. ConHead_4_Life

I like this extension a lot at this AAV, overall though I’m a little confused about the gameplan here.

The one decent thing about this is all these uncs will be off the books by the time Schaefer needs an extension, that bad thing is I don’t know how we are getting younger besides praying all of our prospects hit.

Kinda seems like a recipe for a bubble team the next 4 years that doesn’t get any younger and doesn’t sell because we are still in the playoff hunt.

  17. Don’t get how we think that this is worse than the Schenn/Drouin trade. This is miles better

  18. Correct-Local3240

Lmao. Our average center age is 33.5 and will be almost 36 in 2028….. why?!

  19. Geodaddi

So we’re not retooling! Got it. Have Schaefer fall into your lap and play Ritchie, the guy the previous GM snagged for you.

Rolling back a slow, mid, old team for the next 2-3 years is the plan.

    This guy sucks.

  20. RealestJP

Really good in a vacuum but Schenn and Ritchie fit the same mold and I think I’d rather Ritchie at center rather than on the wing. I was relatively positive about the Schenn deal but not with extending Pageau

  21. BigVin15

    Lee-JGP-Cizikas 4th line next year.

Schenn can play the 2nd line for the playoffs push and start on the 3rd line next year. Hopefully in the off-season we can add a Thomas type Center for the 2nd line.

  22. Excellent-Heart2267

I hope this means that we can trade him this summer and get assets as opposed to him just walking him in free agency?? Maybe??

  23. minos157

In the Schenn thread I said it probably indicated JGP wasn’t re-signing 😂

  24. BostonSucksatHockey

I don’t hate it but I don’t love it. I don’t think it makes sense after the Schenn trade and JGP will be 36 in the last year of the deal. As long as there’s no trade restrictions, it’ll be fine.

  25. Necessary_Tie2856

Douche is not looking good after this especially after we got Schenn no reason for Pageau

  26. BruceShark88

Love it, JGP is so valuable in so many different situations, I hope he retires an Islander.

  27. thr0waway2morrow

    When does cizikas contract end?

  28. priester85

As yes, it all makes even less sense now.

    (I don’t hate this in a vacuum but… huh?)

  29. Parking-String-5356

We won’t get better than him on the market or in our current system. Pageau’s solid and that’s ok.
