    C. Not aggressive enough, that said if Jiricek becomes a player maybe this looks better in a few years

  2. Wekilledit88

    C+

Obviously wish Risto was traded however I recognize Danny can trade him in the offseason or at next year’s deadline. I’m leaning towards offseason given how Zegras came about. If this was Ristos last year under contract it would be an immediate F.

I just hope he can work his trade magic in general this offseason since we’ll have a ton of cap space. Still have wingers to trade, Dmen, I’m not totally losing hope but today did suck a bit. If Jiricek can pan out and just get his skating up to par like Brink did then I’d upgrade this to a B+ because Jiricek has a great shot and touch, also he’s 6’ 4” and physical.

    C-.

Brink/Jiricek swap was creative and gives us a legitimate shot at addressing a long term need, like that deal a whole lot

I think this is the first year his « pay up or shut up » mentality bit him in the ass, not trading Risto has far more of a chance to end up being a mistake than a good decision IMO

I also consider the extension of Dvorak instead of waiting to see if he could be a selling chip to qualify as a TDL decision (and a bad one at that)

  4. TwoForHawat

Not knowing what offers were out there for Risto, I put him on the B-/C+ cusp. If he passed on a 1st for Risto, C+, and if that never materialized, he can have a B-.

I like taking a shot on Jiricek and freeing up a wing spot by moving Brink, who I love but was probably our least important Top 9 wing. Having an extra defenseman to watch in the coming years is a good thing, because we feel very thin there in terms of exciting prospects.

Not moving Risto is a mistake, but how big a mistake hinges a lot of what was on the table. And I think especially when Risto didn’t get moved and that retention slot was unused, I wish we’d been able to flip someone like Grundstrom, Hathaway, or Juulsen at 50% retention for a 5th rounder. Not a big loss there, but I would’ve bumped him up half a grade if he bought an extra lottery ticket for a future draft.

D+. This team sucks and has no fire in their belly. We should trade everyone

  6. Scared-Arachnid6286

C+ I think Risto gets moved in the summer, and people will have been angry for nothing. I’ll miss Brink, but you have to bet on talent to get better.

  7. OutrageousRegret

C+ he stuck to his guns on the price for Risto. Got a good long-term potential solution (who still needs development) on D.

  8. FlyersLaForest

C- a lot is gonna depend on Jiricek. But we were way too quiet for a team in our position

  9. Exzrian_Artistrana

    D+

Nothing really spectacular like he said was going to happen, but underpaid in some trades and heavy asking prices for trades that could’ve been. Our “biggest” trade was the Boston one, but that was essentially just an AHL trade that really does nothing for the main organization, so like…the fuck.

Hearing that Tippet, and even Risto, were being talked about a bunch for around the league and then nothing coming of that is a little bittersweet; would’ve hated to see Tipp leave, but hockey is a game of pieces at the end of the day, and knowing that they could’ve been something decently major out of Boston, or even Buffalo, is making me ***really*** question this organization as a whole anymore. Just so many missed opportunities that mirror Fletcher’s deadline quietness

    B-

We flipped Brink for a recent former 6th OA pick (the guy after Cutter) and we still need to move out wingers. He may not pan out, but I’d much rather him than a second+.

No Risto trade, but we don’t have confirmation on any offer, so I’m willing to forego too harsh a criticism there.

  11. Strong_Weird_9358

B: We all knew the challenges for this deadline. We had players to move and prices to be met. Can’t draw blood from a stone and I would never want to trade assets for garbage anyway.

But getting Jiricek for Brink was not on my bingo card. It’s creative. You open up RW and You get him in the building for the last 20 games to see first hand what his challenges are. Those 20 games can only help his development for us, so it was clever to do this now, rather than the offseason.

    C. Really like the upside swing on Jiricek but incredibly disappointed he held onto Risto

  13. hatylotto

    B-/C+

Signing Dvorak and not trading Risto was a mistake imo, although I can appreciate somewhat Danny’s willingness to stick to his guns.

I like the Brink-Jiricek swap. Flyers have shown that they can take on these kind of reclamation projects and have some success (i.e. Drysdale and Zegras). Would be sweet if Jiricek can turn into an impact guy for us one day.

  14. Long-Gold-2742

C+ i guess… every year seems pretty underwhelming tho

  15. realbookvol1

Id give him a B-. Brink wasn’t going to be part of the future of this team and moving him for a young RHD is good.

Briere also is clearly trying to establish a reputation as a GM for being transparent publicly with a willingness to be creative and flexible. The public ask for Laughton was a 1st+ and he waited for exactly that and took a delayed 1st to do it. Everyone seems to be angry Risto wasn’t moved, but there was a public asking price. If no one met it then not caving is the correct thing to do if you want to be taken seriously in future negotiations.

I’m not happy the team sucks and I want every player and every move to work out and to finally make the playoffs again. But I still have faith in Danny. There’s a very annoying recency bias that pervades this entire forum that I don’t think is fair.

This year is shot, let it play out. Excited to see the kids next year

  16. Striker-X-17

There’s not a lot he can do right now. I give a B. He cleared out a winger for a roster spot to open. Brought in a potential PP1 Dman with a cannon thats 22 years old. Shipped out Dlo as well.

Yeah Risto didn’t get moved, but wasn’t a priority. Would have been nice, but that can wait. Still need to free up another winger spot and get a 1C. Perhaps that gets solved this summer yet.

If Jiricek pans out to be a no. 1 D, then this is an A+ trade. We’ll see.

  17. Groovicity

    B/B-

The market really didnt bend in our favor this TDL, especially the D market. Sad to see Brink go, loved that kid, but clearing up a RW spot and adding a high upside D man who’s only 22 and was drafted high?!?! Love taking a chance there and buying low!! Solid move.

The rest of the evaluation remains to be seen. I wanted to move Risto and Tipper for picks and poss a promising prospect or 2, but it seemed like playoff teams were a bit hesitant this year to part with assets. It would have been a mistake to settle for less than they’re worth, and I’ll stand by that philosophy.

If Danny passed on a 1st alone for Risto, I’m actually OK with that, as that pick is likely back half of the 1st round. Risto has value when healthy, and despite the fortune tellers in this sub saying otherwise, no one knows if he’ll get injured again or if he stays healthy, which would only increase his future value.

If Jiricek ends up working out for us, and Danny is able to get good return for Risto and Tipper either in the off season, or next year, then this TDL easily gets a B or higher. (We also moved Nic D to Carolina for a conditional 7th in 2027….we now have 9 picks in 2027, including two 1st round picks!)

Time will tell here, but glad DB didnt sell the house for pennies on the dollar. This does put pressure on him to step on the gas a bit this off-season and make stuff happen, but at least we have some assets to dangle in front of teams.

  18. butchy_boyz

    D. Extending instead of moving Dvorak F, moving Brink for Jiricek C,

  19. dadnauseum

it’s interesting…people saying words like “malpractice” when it comes to the risto trade, and danny’s press conference. then i see mostly Bs and Cs here. don’t get me wrong, i’m in the C camp. i just figured i’d see a lot more people shooting for D considering the amount of disappointment in the sub so far.

  20. Armageddon-666

    D-

Brink has so much potential, but we have a coach and staff that can’t develop talent. That has been our problem for more than a decade, we have talent that needs development but we lack the ability to unlock it and brink is just another guy we failed to unlock.

The flyers just want guys that « work » right out of the box because we can’t open the box.

  21. Streetkillz13

B- One good move, and one egregious mistake.

Trading Brink was an inevitability in the long run. Barkey took his spot faster than expected and that left the flyers with 4 wingers under 5’11 180. Getting a project with elite upside is always worth it. B+/A-

The Dvorak signing is tough. Would Dvorak have fetched a 1st… yes, but you also need to find someone who can be a top 6 C. Excluding Malkin and Kopitar who are either re-signing or retiring, Dvorak is a top 2 full time center in this UFA class. Unless you are taking that 1st an packaging this to get another Center this is a B-.

Not trading Risto… no excuse this should have been done. D-

  22. BigBroDave

B for the Brink/Jiricek trade but probably C overall for the lack of anything else of significance.

  23. He’s taking a gamble on Risto’s health. I have to think there were teams who were scared off and weren’t willing to make a 1.5 year commitment. So it’s definitely a gamble that may pay off. I’ll give him an incomplete there. There are too many unknowns for me.

The Brink trade is a solid B. Jiricek is another gamble, but he’s younger and a position of need and the Flyers have done a good job improving players (including Brink).
