It was more about shedding his salary. The replacement they got is younger and faster so it’s all good. Good luck to Mr. Perron

He’s overpaid and injured… again.
DP was a bum… that made 4M
One is an injured UFA, the other has a year left on his deal and available.
Perron is an aging player who had a significant back injury last year and a sports hernia this year.
He also didn't fit in super well with the team structure.
I like the guy, he was a great veteran presence, but his on-ice play didn't boost his value.
Plus the move was to get him out and bring Foegle in to save a good amount of money.
