A lot of that subpar goaltending is due to Bruno’s defensive system not being a good fit for this roster. Whether that’s his fault for not adjusting or Trotz’s fault for not getting him the right guys is debatable. Since his and Trotz’s arrival our defensive metrics also fell off a cliff with Saros, so I would argue that has a lot to do with it. Last year they dismantled the defense a bit and it seemed to get worse. Could Saros do better? Sure but I have the belief that the best goalies would still lack in numbers on this team.
Either way you look at it, it isn’t good with all 3 metrics. Finishing, defense, and goaltending. This is why I’m on team rebuild, for real this time. It appears this year, just like 23-24, the offense has sparked some and able to carry the defense a bit to a wild card race. We also have to remember that the west is very top heavy. Yes we are in the bubble for WC2 but we are also 26th in the league standings.
