I don’t want to speculate, but clearly we were going to trade for Sydney Crosby and get him to play RD.

  2. biglacunaire

Fox would be exceedingly unlikely given the history between Gorton and the Rangers. McAvoy is part of the Boston core so also incredibly unlikely. It would be like negotiating a trade with Hutson or Caufield.

  3. CocoKing02

Hronek seems the most likely of these options. I cant fathom the price we would pay for McAvoy in that market.

  4. Fr4nk001

David Pagnotta didn’t reveal shit, he’s just guessing.

  5. Large_Seesaw_569

If your name is Xhekaj or Struble, i hope you know what that means for you. If you like your job you’ve got about 20 games to keep it.

  6. “Right D with term” does not mean it’s a star top pairing D. None of those would be affordable targets by the Habs and they wouldn’t have a spot in the lineup.

  7. Technical-Line-9806

I think the load of crap is most likely.

  8. biglacunaire

I’m thinking Parayko after the buffalo deal fell apart.

  9. Effective-Goose-7835

McAvoy is only 28 years old; it makes no sense why the Bruins would trade him. Hronek could make sense

That makes no sense. We already have Dobson/Matheson not playing (or barely) PP and you would have added McAvoy to that?

And can you imagine the premium of getting McAvoy out of Boston to Montreal? The price would be astronomical, and for what? It would certainly be something like Guhle, Reinbacher, 1st +. We don’t need the avengers in defense, just a RD that can play physical and move the puck.

  11. There are a million RDs with term more likely to be traded than Charlie McAvoy. That’s like speculating that the habs were about to trade Lane Hutson.

My guess (assuming Pagnotta’s info is correct) would be more along the lines of a Dylan Demelo or Brandon Carlo. A #4 dependable RD more than a franchise D or a top pairing RD.
KH said it was significant and in my opinion a top 4 D with term is pretty significant.

  13. Otherwise_Cod_3478

Here the ones I think could fit the bill.

Neil Pionk, Matt Roy or Brett Pesce. Good enough to be 2nd pair RD, vet but not too old. Signed long-term. Play on a team that struggle this season and might want to do some changes among their vet.

I’m not a fan of Pionk’s contract, but Roy and Pesce are decent cap hit that would work well I think.

RD automatically means some top asset? Fuck no to all those guy listed.

It could have very well been a steady, stay at home, defensive RD for the 2/3rd pairing.

Sure, McAvoy is a great dman, but no way that would have happened. Too many assets to give up, and the Bruins would not trade a guy like that to a rival. We need upgrades on Carrier, Struble, Xhekaj for the bottom pairing. Save big assets for an upgrade on 2C/top 6 guy.

Also, I wonder if it’s a LD for RD swap, like a Guhle for a similar RD player.

  15. Studly_Wonderballs

Parayko, Whitecloud, MacAvoy, Josi, Hamilton, Nemec, Perbix, Schneider, Clarke, Hronek 🤷🏻‍♂️

  16. WeathervaneJesus1

I’m going with Travis Sanheim. A left-shot D that plays on the right. Great contract with lots of term. Plays against other team’s best players, top penalty killer and get points despite not getting much power play time. This also fits with the theory that it was someone not mentioned.

  17. OkAppointment8587

Zero chance it was McAvoy. Zero. Theyre in a playoff spot . Why the f would they trade their best D man to a rival. Zero chance

  18. Perry4761

Pagnotta is one of the least credible « insiders » in the game. I’d sooner trust Seravalli than Pagnotta, even though Seravalli is the dumbest « insider » out there…

  19. gotricolore

I thought it was insinuated the player was a forward?

  20. Kps1234567

it’s Adam Fox. He’ll be a Canadien in July.

  21. Habsfan43

I feel like Zach Whitecloud could have been it. 29 years old, so not crazy old, and has 2 years left at $2.5 mill cap hit each year. And Calgary was selling.

  22. Born-Section5717

LOL a lot of speculating going on here considering it’s already out there that Colton Parayko blocked a second trade at the final buzzer. Of course, I’m just guessing too, but sometimes the obvious answer is right.

  23. cool_exec

    Here’s a thought, Aaron Ekblad

Panthers will be in cap trouble if they resign Bobrovski (without a hometown discount) and depth players.

    6’4”
    Cup winner.
    Solid veteran.
    Decent AAV 6.4M

If Pagbotta’s theory or report is correct I see only a few names:
Ekblad, Nemec, Hroenek, Whitecloud, Hamilton (don’t like the cap hit)

  24. Missed_Your_Joke

    McAvoy to a divisional rival??

  25. sbrooksc77

If its actually a right shot dman, My guess is hronek. But im not sure im happy about that. Reinbacher is REALLLLLLY turning a corner down in the A. Give him a chance.
