100% too high. Good move by tulski. Obviously no one thought that was the right ask because he didn’t get moved.
Guess it depends on how you view trocheck. Was he the 2C that would get us over the hump? He was already here once and it didn’t happen so I would have had a hard time seeing us paying a premium to try again.
I agree 100% He wanted out once, so I saw him as a rental.
I think he’s gonna force himself out by the summer anyways. It’s clear he wants to win and probably doesn’t want to stay through a retool. Whether it’s us or someone else who picks him up, what the Rangers will get will be much lower than what they wanted.
Too high and you hate for the Canes to make the Rags better by like shipping off Nikishin.

Trochek is between being a good 2C and a great 3C. Jordan Staal is a better player than him at 3C. The Canes need a much better 2C.
If they would have accepted KK as the roster player, I would have done it (ideally not Nadeau as the prospect, but I think I would have even done it even then). If the roster player was Nikishin (likely the ask) or someone else like Blake/Stankoven, then no
No reason to give up major assets for a player who already had 3 playoff exits with us. It was Robert Thomas or bust.
Not worth considering unless they were taking KK (narrator: “they weren’t”). But I don’t really fault them for asking given what the other deals were going down for. Just wasn’t going to happen with these two teams.

Better C will be available in the offseason plus Trocheck’s value won’t be as high.
