This is probably the most unified the fan base has been in the last 10 years. Not a single fan I know wants Brad and Craig back next year. If both or one are back there will be heavy backlash.

Dreger is partially responsible for the leafs downfall. Nearly everything he’s said over the past 7 years has worked against the leafs.
He directly spun narratives that ended up working against the leafs when it came to Gm shit like Dubas or Trelivimg . Protecting higher up fuckups like Shannahan . Not to mention driving away Marner, defending regarding his camp, and fucking up contract negotiations .
If 3 things need to change in order for the leafs to get better fire it’s fire Treiliving first, fire berube second and fire Dreger third.

Kypreos was on 590 yesterday touting similar stuff, saying that teams are cyclical and Brad is just the guy to bring the leafs to the end of this window. He shifted the blame to previous regimes, and said Brad is the guy to bring the team into a reconfigure. Went on to talk about all the near misses and what if the pucks bounced the other way for them in the playoffs.
As if there aren’t teams who were in their window sooner, or a similar time and stayed relevant. Also it’s not like Willy and Auston are in their mid 30’s riding off into the sunset, this didn’t have to be a retool, but it seems to be heading that way because of Brads moves.

We get it these guys are your buddies and they’ built your career by leaking you info, but the bias he has now a days for his buddies makes him unlistenable

It’s both and that’s ok. Treviling isn’t the guy and doesn’t know what moves to make, but Matthews et al are never going to change their colours from the soft yet skilled mercenaries they are. Until the culture to win changes in that lockerroom, nothing will and while that’s on Brad to do and manage, try getting rid of the team talisman and his crew without people at the gate with torches and pitchforks.

I still think Dreger cost the market millions a year on Marner, and by extension, helped sewer this era. All that talk about Ferris, and comparing him to Matthews (dollar for dollar) instead of wingers, or even Patrick Kane. Propagandist mouthpiece for the agent. Can we throw some garbage on his lawn? players have been shit. i’m sorry but its true. there’s been some injuries sure…but there’s been a ton of underperformances across the board, and from the big players. they’ve been asked to play a certain way…instead of doing it, they’re pouting.
coaching hasnt been the best. Berube is right on some points….this team does need to play a heavier brand of hockey, and if 9 seasons of playoff flameouts doesnt make you realize your brand is off…you need help. but he hasnt adjusted or adapted his style to meet the players in the middle. you can’t trade 20 players….so you need to find a way to work with them within your system.
GM didnt set this roster up for success. we knew coming out of last season we needed a better D core, guys that could move the puck (so we dont get stomped in our end as much) and we knew we needed somebody in the top6 to step into marners role. they failed… Macelli was a stop gap, not the guy…and they never went and got the guy. Strong argument that with no assets to trade his hands were tied, but there wasnt any creative approaches taken or attempted from what we’ve seen….just that Tre’s been ‘in on’ guys.
Pelley should have hired a president. you need a hockey guy there…overseeing the GM and making high level decisions and have a sounding board for the GM.
