Kovacevic has always been mid. This season is just injury + regression to the mean.
It was a bad and completely unnecessary extension, especially at the trade deadline to boot. The NTC was just another hilarious kicker.
That this is just another thing biting us in the ass was the most predictable thing in the world.
The extension was fine both in value and term. It’s comparable to Siegs’ extension adjusted for 2025. The NTC is the problem. Siegs at least earned the little bit of trade protection he has after being an NHL mainstay for around 5 years. Kov only started getting meaningful NHL time in 22, 3 years before the extension. The most he maybe earned was a 10 team NTC same as Siegs but never in a million years did he deserve full trade protection if even only for two years
All that said, the entire team has regressed this year so I don’t know how helpful it is to point at Kov as part of the problem. Everyone is part of the problem right now. The season is a wash. Just try to finish strong and look to September

I think this one was blown out of proportion and is more unlucky than anything. He was great last year and tore his acl after signing the contract. Not something you bounce right back from
Could get on TF for the NMC of course but just gotta hope JK bounces back next year after an offseason
I’ll give him a pass this year,due to returning from ACL surgery.It takes at least a calendar year to feel normal again after that surgery
I never understood rushing to sign a 7th dman to the contract he received. And couldn’t believe the no trades on top. He’s not bad. Well this year he hasn’t been good. Just made no sense with the amount of d we already had.
