Leafs are tanking. Message to the team has been, go out there and skate, because Rogers loves to stack their cash from ticket sales and concessions (“we’re not here to sell jerseys”… yeah, right!), but don’t try your hardest because we’re trying to secure a top 5 draft pick.

Also I think it’s fascinating that Nylander is relentlessly scrutinized in Toronto media while AM continues to be given a long leash. You would think it was Wily who hasn’t scored 42 days.

It would be great if they would at least acknowledge something is wrong. He’s still a very good player – he makes plays, generates offense, wins battles, is a takeaway machine, etc. That said, the other day I was watching clips from games 5 years ago, and it is so obviously clear that he’s not the same player. The guy 5 years ago would come in one on one against the defender and just rip shots from the circles. He was a weapon from anywhere – he’s just not anymore. Most of his shots are one timed snapshots. He mixes in the occasional wrist shot, but it’s not as dangerous as he once was.
I see a lot of people pointing to his Olympic (points) performance as a reason why this could be a coaching issue. While I don’t think using him as a defense-first player is the best use, I watched all of those USA games and let me tell you – he was the same player as he is with the Leafs currently. He was not the old Matthews.
So I thought Matthews would go on a heater after the Olympics. I kept picking him to score on the Tims app. Obviously he has not but I keep picking him. It’s helping with the tank so I shall not stop until he flukes one in.
He’s mailed it in. What an awful look for the captain of the team.

Looks bad yeah, but at this point of the season it’s too late to try and get anything going, not to mention doesn’t make sense if we want to try and salvage our pick.
It’s not like his value is gonna tank, nor are we looking to trade him before the next season. So if he wants to slack and suck, better now than the next season when we try again.
At this point I’m all in on the team performing like hot garbage to finish the rest of the season. Fans should also stop watching to send a message to the suits that this is what happens when you allow your management staff to fuck shit up without consequences. Somebody needs to be fired for the deadline fiasco.

As a guy who was at the game last night he was dogging it very obviously. Terrible look for the captain but he and most of the team are not trying.
It reflect poorly on the team and worse on management for making no coaching change especially when it was evident by December change was needed. Likely would have saved the season
