Dale Hunter’s number was retired March 11, 2000. This was the giveaway from that night.
The team gave Hunter a full size penalty box as a gift.

I was there too! Wheeling the entire penalty box on to the ice is still one of the funniest things I’ve seen at a game.
I hung this poster up everywhere I lived until I got married. Then one day when my daughter was 4 after the Cup win, she said she wanted a Caps poster in here room. She loved that I hung this up for her.

My Mom and Dad were there that night as well! Hunter is my Dad’s all time favorite player.

I have a unique item – it’s Hunter’s Hampton Roads Admirals practice jersey that he wore when he was working out with the team to stay in shape during in the 1994-95 lockout. The Admirals were the Caps’ ECHL farm team at the time. He didn’t play in any games but he attended as a spectator. When people kept asking him for autographs in the stands, I overheard a couple of confused girls speculating about who he was. They thought he was Bono from U2.

WOW! I was also there, and had forgotten that I have this poster packed away somewhere, time to hunt for it.
