Favorites to win the cup is a bit of a stretch
Watching Colorado last night and I was not impressed. They looked old and slow. Although the goalie has been solid, it’s not a plus in the back end vs. the Wild. They were great in November December but since the year changed they’ve struggled mightily. With Landeskog on IR, they don’t have the juice to make a deep run. The tweaks they’ve made to the lineup have not been positive so far. Head to head I give the Wild the advantage in the playoffs no matter who they play. They have depth scoring and have dramatically improved on PP and PK since the Hughes trade. With the addition of McCarron they greatly improve in toughness and on the dot. If they had a mediocre start, they’d be neck and neck with Colorado right now and climbing. The Stars will be a big test but I’m not sure if that’s who they’ll even be playing. If the trend continues, either could catch the Avs before the season ends. The age of that team is really beginning to show.
