Bum should’ve been out of the league years ago. First Crosby now Matthews. Joke of a league and the dops never fails to disappoint

  2. Carparker19

When they play on March 30th, any Leaf who doesn’t fight is off the team.

  3. Party-Yoghurt-8462

With how chincy the league is with suspensions, that’s pretty high.

    It should be 10.

  4. Mediocre_Ad_5288

Not enough, if it were a leafs player that did that ot would’ve been 10 games

  5. UtheDestroyer

Ya thought it’d be on the higher end of games for the call, but still should be more

  6. Svalbard38

That’s what I expected. Should be more but it was never going to be.

  7. Midnightrain2469

Should be out for the regular season. See ya March 30

  8. WintersbaneGDX

Leafs play the ducks again on March 30th.

The following players should not be playing in the playoffs:

    – Gauthier

    – Sennecke

    – Dostal

    – Gudas

    – Leo Carlsson

We’ll take any 3 from that 5 as mission complete. See it done, boys.

He’s costing Matthews MILLIONS of dollars. It fucks the leafs over but his knee will never be the same and with all of his injuries it’s just another brick in the wall against him. Lower trade value, lower next contract and likely impacts his ability to play long term.

    But sure, five games

  10. shindleria

It took until almost 9pm for his superiors to pressure George Parros into giving Gudas 5 instead of what he really wanted to which would have been a whole lot less.

  11. sufjanstevensegal

That’s as Gudas you’re gonna get, sadly.

  12. booyaahdrcramer

As harry neale used to day. Live by the sword, die by the sword. Wait until the stretcher Gudas of the ice some day. He will get his as much as all the bushwhackers have gotten theirs. Look at the list over the years if you don’t believe it. Matter of time.

  13. Fit-Lemon-6198

Didn’t expect more than five, heck in this league I wouldn’t have been shocked at 3-4 games, Still disappointing because it really doesn’t send much of message. Well it does send a message but it’s the wrong one. Any way at this point I just hope Matthews recovers well and hope to see him next season, and back in full form.

So you can take out a star player for the rest of the year and all it will cost you is 5 games. Seems like an easy trade off for the Bennetts and Gudas’ of the world. This league is an absolute fucking joke.

  15. This is why the NHL will remain behind as a major sport. This type of stuff is a turn off for anyone who wants to be a fan. Superstar player from the most popular team in the league gets taken down for months after some psycho purposefully injures him and the league decides a basically non punishment should suffice. They should be suspending based on history too because he obviously never learned his lesson and will continue taking out ligaments in all your best players.

  16. Showtime98

Should be more but at least he got something

  17. Embarrassed_Eye4572

Fifth suspension, fourth time he’s injured someone, five if you include Crosby at the Olympics. This fucking prick needs to be removed from the NHL.

Never mind the Mar. 30 game against Toronto. Every single team should be out to teach this fucker a lesson.

  18. baylaust

Phone call hearing. Phone call hearings mean a player CAN’T be suspended for more than 5 games.

I think Parros fucked up. They waited so long to announce this suspension that it kinda gave the game away. They were waiting to hear how severe the injury was. The DOPS was banking on it being mild, so they pre-emptively called a phone hearing so they could give Gudas a slap on the wrist.

But now it’s a season-ender. Which means you HAVE to give Gudas something serious. But because you went ahead and made it a phone hearing, you CAN’T.

  19. Rockeye7

The NHL league person in charge of that department applied the rules the NHL team OWNER put in place. It’s a process and it’s been followed. 5 games is max for a non in person hearing. What can anyone do .

  20. theguyishere16

I guarantee Parros was going to go 2-3 until there was so much backlash on social media even from fans of other teams so he threw the max he could based on his dumbass decision to make the hearing a phone hearing.

  21. nikebalaclava

the sad thing is that’s actually more than i thought they would give him, based solely on how incompetent they’ve proven themselves to be.

  22. jhouse13

I assumed it’d be 1 so im pleasantly surprised

  23. re10pect

Honestly, way more than I expected, given only a phone hearing and Parros being an incompetent fuck.

I think it should be considerably more, but with the state of the DOPS and this league it’s something at least.

  24. buster_rhino

Remember when Spezza got 6 games for his first offence that didn’t knock the other guy out for the rest of the season.

  25. CandidMajor5044

If the league had any guts , it would have been a suspension for the rest of the regular season, plus the first round of the playoffs for deliberate attempt to injure. Maybe he would be allowed back for the second round if the Ducks made it that far.

Gudas might even appeal and get the 5 games reduced somehow!

  26. Status-Mulberry1857

Hopefully, AM34 will not decline three seasons in a row…

  27. mattfromjoisey

Well he is a former Panther, don’t know why anyone’s surprised by this

  28. shikotee

Why doesn’t anyone hold Bettman accountable? I was a young man in high school when his reign started. Enough of this boomer nonsense.

  29. krazninetyfive

I’m not a Leafs fan, but came here to say, I hope you guys give the Ducks hell on the 30th.

  30. ilovebarleyteas

5 games for a guy out for the season.

The league is literally incentivising plays like this.
