Stenberg is the “safer” pick, and seems to be a better two way player. McKenna may have a higher ceiling but at a higher risk. I’m 99% sure the Canucks choose Stenberg if they pick first

the risk of passing on mckenna is too high imo. i doubt we’ll get a chance to make this choice sadly

I prefer McKenna but expect the Canucks would take Stenberg

Dont care as long as we get dupont next year

I honestly wouldn’t mind either, since McKenna is high risk high reward (he either becomes Canadian Kucherov or a one dimensional pp guy which isn’t bad given how impactful powerplays have become) and Stenberg is the Low risk Medium reward guy (he’s either an amazing first line two way playmaker with a good shot or a very good top six two way playmaker). I see the logic in picking either one as 1OA. (But if McKenna hits and we didn’t get him, that’s going to sting)

Time to replace that Canadian gap Horvat leaving created.

Please choose Mckenna.. come on now. Canadian boy and has been lighting it up

With JR’s comment about wanting more guys from western Canada, I think they go McKenna if they pick 1OA.

The only way we get McKenna is if he somehow goes 2nd or 3rd OA

Id pick mckenna then assuming we also get the Ruck twins (former team mates) also cootes is a former team mate. I think it would just be better for the culture.

I would rather take Mckenna, Would be ok with Ivar if they didnt pick first.
Id rather be wrong about mckenna being a superstar tier player than for them to willingly choose ivar and watch him be that on a different team.
If they both end up being superstars that would be nice. But they’ve chose swedish players for a long time now. Its time for something different and if i remember seeing they want to get more canadian players so that is promising.

put it like this: if the Canucks get the chance to draft McKenna, there is no earthly way Aquilini would allow the team to pass on a potential Canadian superstar in favour of a European. The jersey sales and ticket buzz McKenna would generate makes it a sure thing. The only way the Canucks pick Stenberg is if they pick 2nd and McKenna is gone.

They’re both great players, but I think the ceiling is just too high to pass on McKenna. His D-1 production is otherworldly, and has legit franchise player upside.

That’s nothing against Stenberg, who is a total stud in his own way. I feel like he could be this era’s version of Marian Hossa.

McKenna if we don’t fall out of the #1 spot, but if we do, Stenberg is a great pick at 2 or 3.

Personally, as a non-professional scout reading literature online and watching YouTube videos, McKenna has slightly more star power potential. Now that he comfortable in the NCAA, he is not far off from Celebrini’s 1.61 PPG pace. I believe he’s around 1.5 in his last 30+ games.

Not saying he is Celebrini, but that’s an incredible player for us. Stenberg is on a better team posting incredible numbers, so I think I give the slight edge to McKenna because his team is not as good, precisely.

Which one will sell more jerseys?

If we get 1OA, I think we have to pull the trigger on McKenna. 2-3 months back I said Stenberg, but McKenna is just something you don’t pass on today. If we land 2nd pick, obv Stenberg. If we land 3rd, this keeps changing but Verhoeff seems like the solid choice (or Stenberg if he’s still available).

Some names have flopped around into the top 3 like Reid and Lawrence amongst others – but I say we would be happy with McKenna > Stenberg > Verhoeff in that order.

If we don’t land 10A, I hope we flop equally hard next year to try again for DuPont.

If the Canucks pick McKenna and somehow he ends up a dud, nobody can flame the GM for picking a Swede again 🤷‍♂️

  19. Darth_Vicious

Any kid that punches a punk out for insulting his mom should go 1OA. We’re not the Leafs.

  20. PoisonClan24

I’m team McKenna. Canadian boy with superstar potential. Sign me up!!

  21. EverySecondCountss

All I want is a top 3 pick!

Not picking McKenna though then watching him rip it the fuck up in the Olympics would sting a lot more than watching Stenberg rip it up with Sweden if we picked McKenna.

    * a part (“apart” means the exact opposite of what you are intending. Also… McKenna.
