    > Asked about Toronto Maple Leafs and U.S. captain Auston Matthews, Guerin looked like he was ready to go through the motions, spout off a couple of cliches and one-liners, but then he looked up, realized it was TSN’s Mark Masters and realized the sound bites he was about to deliver would be aired all over Canada and especially in Toronto.

    > That’s when Guerin turned up the volume and began to really pump Matthews’ tires as a player, captain and person.

    > As Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman joked on his 32 Thoughts podcast Friday, there may as well be a neon sign on the side of Grand Casino Arena with the words, “Come here, Auston. Quinn is waiting for you.”

I’d say there’s a 0.1% chance Matthews is traded to the Wild but the way Russo has been talking about Matthews and « Big Game Hunting » the last month, it seems like OGMGMBG will be the first on the phones to Toronto if there’s rumors of Matthews being traded.

Article basically goes into the Wild waiting until summer to make a big splash with Matthews and B. Tkachuk being same names (aka Quinn’s buddies).

Can’t see us having the ammo for Matthews but it’d likely include Yurov, Wally, another top prospect, picks, and a vet. Hopefully Stramel has a big NCAA tournament to inflate his stock a bit as well.

Would I trade everything for Matthews? Easy yes. Matthews, Kaprizov, Boldy? Wow….

Does Matthews even have a knee anymore?

I just don’t see this happening

    Would I want him?

Yeah… hes to McDavid what Hughes is to Makar

Thats why I don’t see Toronto trading him, they aren’t in as bad shape as Vancouver was. They fully believe they’ll contend against next year.

Most of this comes because Matthews is an American Gold Medal Captian in a Canadian Market, his team didn’t stick up for him, and the Olympic GM in Minnesota.

Come July 1st all emotions surrounding those three things will be numb, null, and void.

Also if you keep trading NHL ready « young guns » like the Hughes trade, and potential Matthews trade cost you eventually make your team worse because you’re playing AHL guys in NHL roles nightly.

It’s very obvious that Matthews is not the same 50+ goal scorer he was earlier in his career since that wrist injury. Anyone who has watched footage can see it.

But he is still a damn good player. And it’s possible a couple years of r&r can get that shot back. I personally doubt it, but who knows.

Wallstedt + Yurov + Stramel is a good starting point, but I have to assume another team could beat that. I have no idea what else the Wild could throw in to tip the scales, but maybe Guerin can figure it out.

do I have to like him if he comes here? /s

I could see Mathews asking for a trade. Toronto needs to change up their roster and maybe moving Mathews is part of that change up. Can the wild get him? I dunno. That would be a real question. I think Toronto will want a rostered player back. I dont consider Yurov the rostered player they would want back. I think if we were being honest, Yurov should be in the AHL learning to win draws and getting mega minutes.

If Treliving gets fired at the end of the season, I think the chances of Matthews getting traded over the summer drop to zero. But if he sticks around and Matthews wants out, we could see something.

The naysaying of Matthews in here is exactly reminiscent of when Eichel was available, too. I think Vegas feels pretty happy with how that played out.

You need to take risks to win it all. The Wild have played it safe and comfortable for the entirety of its existence. Are we happy with how that’s played out?
