  1. Sturm needs to switch Khusnutdinov & Geekie that 3rd line is way to slow, at least if Sturm makes the switch Khusnutdinov will give the 3rd line some speed and compete!

  2. Hagens is not coming in and playing center he's been playing wing most of the year. Poitras in Lindholm out! Hagens-Poitras-
    Geekie 3rd line! 🤔

  3. The Bruins had a very good January however since February 1st their overall record hasn’t been all that great. When you look under the hood it’s probably a 50/50 bet that Boston makes the post season at this point

    5-4-4 since February 1st

So 13 games, 26 points available to them and they banked 14 of them for a barely over .500 Winning% of .538 13 games and they’ve only won 5 of those 13

Also, only 4 of their 13 games since February 1st have been against teams within the current playoff structure and all they’ve been able to do is go .538 against that kind of easy schedule

That’s not exactly something to celebrate.

The easy schedule 100% explains why their Penalty Kill and their overall 5×5 defensive numbers have looked a bit better recently. Again, they’ve played a ridiculously easy schedule since February 1st. However, what can’t be explained is why the 5×5 offense and the power play have gone into the toilet.

Again, the schedule has been easy since February 1st and they’ve avoided any key injuries. Thus, there’s no clear “excuse” as to why the 5×5 offense & PP have cratered of late

After spending most of the season hovering around the Top 10 in 5×5 Goals For they have moved down to 19th in the league

After the PP had been a shining light for them all year, since the Olympic break, they’ve gone a craptastic 12% on the PP

The fact is, Boston’s offense has simply regressed a bit back to their norm and talent level.

Their 5×5 offense was never going to be Top 10 for the entire year and their PP wasn’t going to be pushing 30% all year either

The problem is the Bruins have very little margin for error, thus any down tick in their goal scoring is going to have a terrible impact on their win/loss record because, again, they’re not very good defensively to begin with and their PK has been largely terrible all season

Let’s also not forget they’ve overachieved all season as they’ve been Top 5 – Top 10 in 5×5 xGA, xGF and HDCA all year. Again, they’re just regressing back to their norms of late

You can laud their 4 out of 6 points on the recent road trip, however, since the Olympic break the Bruins are a crappy 1-2-3 on the road, after being a below .500 team on the road all year. And we’re supposed to celebrate this?

The schedule is about to get much tougher.

-14 games in the final 30 days of the year

-8 of their final 13 games are on the road

-8 of their final 11 games are against good teams

-Of their final 13 games only maybe 4 or 5 of them are against below average teams

The Bruins best path to the playoffs?

Hope some combination of CLB, PIT, DET, MTL, NYI OTT falters and they just walk into one of the wild card playoff spots

Other than that, the Bruins will have to play much better on the road down the stretch and they’ll have to win more games than they lose to the better NHL teams

When you combine that tall order with their very tough schedule, it would not be a surprise to see Boston miss the playoffs. That’s not rooting against them, that’s just the reality of the situation

Add to all of that, these concerning numbers…

-Morgan Geekie: ZERO 5×5 points since the Olympic Break

-Elias Lindholm: ONE 5×5 point since the Olympic Break

-Frader Minten: ONE 5×5 point since the Olympic Break (1 point since Feb. 1st)

Elias Lindholm is either hurt or he’s a turd. Either way it’s time to move Elias Lindholm down in the lineup and it’s time to take him off at least the first PP unit. He’s not giving them anything offensively and he’s been a minus player since the Olympics defensively.

Geekie isn’t going to get going by playing in a third line role with one of the absolute worst 5×5 centers in the league in Elias Lindholm either. Whether they want to do it or not, Geekie needs to be moved back up in the lineup to play with Pasa

Lines until or if James Hagans gets to Boston

    Geekie Minten Pasta
    Middlestadt Zacha Arviddson
    Khusy Lindholm Essyimont
    Jeannot Poitras Kastelic

Call up Poitras. Sit Steeves and Kuraly

If James Hagans gets to Boston

    Geekie Minten Pasta
    Middleastad Zacha Arviddson
    Hagans Lindholm Khusy
    Jeannot Poitras Kastelic

Poitras stays up. Kuraly, Essyimont and Steeves sit

None of this really matters as the roster is the roster at this point. This is just an exercise in re-arranging the chairs on deck so to speak

However, some of the chairs need a time out (Elias Lindholm), some need to wake up (Geekie) and some need to seize the opportunity (Minten)

In any event, again it seems like a 50/50 bet that Boston makes the playoffs at this point

Columbus is playing very well right now, they have a bit easier of a schedule and outside of goal, they have a bit better and more well rounded team than Boston has

Boston's schedule the rest, their 5×5 defense and PK have been poor most of the year, their 5×5 offense and PP have regressed, Elias Lindholm, Morgan Geekie and Fraser Minten have been ghosts of late. They're a below .500 road team and 8 of their final 13 games are on the road

I don't know…. Again, 50/50 at this point they make the post season and that's beginning to feel optimistic
