@Canucks de Vancouver

Thomas Drance appelant au retrait du numéro de Hughes est plus que ridicule.

  1. If Hughes actually stayed for 10 more years for sure, but he left. He didn’t wanna be here, why should we honour him?

  2. mmavcanuck

But guys, think about all the success the Canucks had with him!

  3. Deaddoghank

43 should not be retired. Ring of honour maybe. He left for selfish reasons.

    Drance fishing for clicks

  5. maketherightmove

I agree with a lot of Drance takes, but then sometimes he goes and says shit like this and I think the dude is brain dead.

« Calling for Hughes number to be retired » is misrepresenting what he said. He said if Hughes makes the Hall of Fame in 20 years then at that time he will probably think the Canucks should retire his number given that he is the only Norris trophy winner in franchise history.

  7. CanuckPuckLuck

This fucking guy should’ve stayed in Florida.

  8. Camdaman0530

Amazes me how people still give Drance the time of day.

  9. screechypete

I’m not gonna deny that he’s one of the best players to ever put on a Canucks jersey, but someone who bailed on the team when things got tough SHOULD NOT be put into the ROH. Much less have their number retired.

Pay no mind. It is just Drance rambling with his random thoughts again. So annoying…

  12. Defiets

Yeah, maybe we’ll do Messiers afterwards eh?

  13. underneathsink

He hated the city, and resented his own teammates. Seriously fuck Quinn Hughes

  14. Justlurking4977

That would be a very embarrassing thing to do.

  15. Cdr_Bond007

I used to be a huge Hughes fan, as we all were, but now? Fuck him!

  16. Obvious-Property-236

Sure, if we come out with a Ring of Dishonor, and messier is first

  17. Every-Bedroom-1080

    Gtfo Drance that’s ridiculous

  18. great_save_luongo

This could be Drance’s worst take ever. Has to be clickbait. Hughes was much a part of the failure of the team over the last 6 years than anyone else. You don’t get your number retired for losing seasons and being a pretty lame captain and leader.

  19. daviddegeasaves

The only place a Hughes jersey belongs is in my trash can

  20. therealbeef

Checks calendar… it’s not April 1 yet. wtf Drance? You’ve had some bad takes before but this takes the cake. Dipshit.

  21. TruYu96

This has to be ragebait/farming for clicks right? Like this is legit one of the worst takes ever.

  22. DidIMakeAGoof

Absolutely no world where he gets his number retired.

Bure and Hughes left under completely different terms. The Canucks actively fucked over Bure, while they pandered to every demand from Hughes.

Bure is easily the best skater that the Canucks have ever seen. Two 60 goal seasons, with a Stanley Cup game 7 appearance, all in the dead puck era. Bure was also here for the majority of his prime.

Hughes was here for three and a half years of his prime if we’re being realistic (2021-2025). He’s still the best defenseman this organization has seen so far, but, there has to be some standard for jersey retirement.

lol drance known for being dumb as shit. This is right on brand for him.

  24. Dyatomik

No, he didn’t leave his mark on the team and wasn’t a character on this team. He didn’t really act as a captain either. Something tells me that he got the ‘C’ to try and keep him back here.

  25. DJScotty_Evil

As I say every time, fuck Drance.

  26. Upstairs_Bad897

Stfu Thomas Drance ……… sincerely the people who pay your bills

In response to Drance: Nope! Strongly disagree. He will certainly be in all the conversations of best, most skilled players to play for the Canucks. But not ring of honor worthy imo.

When I saw that notification pop up that we had actually just traded Hughes, after having to listen to nothing but potential destinations etc … I was pissed, heartbroken a bit… I felt like we* (management/ownership in large part) failed him. Some decisions the team had made in the last couple seasons of which players to keep or trade/let go had blown up in their faces, but to be fair some decisions did make sense at the time.

But I also feel like Hughes quit on us. The ring of honour is not about who the « best » was in a sense of points, it’s about the people who fk’ing BLEED our colours while contributing to special moments or achievements for the team. The more points they get usually means we get more good moments.

As the captain, deciding to leave is not what makes it onto the ring of honour. Do I give him « points » for telling management rather than just walking after his contract? Sure. Is he the best defensemen and one of the best players we’ve ever had? While in their prime no less? Absolutely.

At this point. If Boeser retires as a Canuck, I’d put him in the ring of honour over Hughes, even based off right now. If it was just for what he does, and the kind of person he is off the ice, while sticking with the team through all the shit he’s had to deal with, all the years with his name coming up… But still continuing on with his Flow.

Dave Babych and Sergio Momesso, yes. Hughes…no
