Morgan Reilly cross checked and punched Ridly Greig after the final whistle. He received a 5 game suspension. His first and only suspension. Greig didn't miss 1 second of ice time. He LAUGHED about it. Who was head of Player Safety then (it was Parros) and how is this equitable? Is it possible that whatever Leaf suddenly grew a pair and went after Gudas would have been suspended for longer than the 5 games Gudas got? The message sent is, don't be afraid to tee off on the Leafs. No matter who it is.
All respect to C-Ball, that's a shit take. As a new-ish NHL fan, one of the main reasons I like this league and this game is because, most of the time, the suits and the refs know when they're flying too close to the sun. You give the guy the same amount of games as you would've if it was two 4th liners that had that collision.
I want players to be safe. I understand the impact of injuries on careers. But you sign up for this shit. You get paid millions of dollars for this shit. Sometimes shit happens, intentional or not. You play a dangerous game, sometimes the danger catches up to ya.
If the leafs were smart, maybe they'd actually call some of their talent up, give them a try and maybe you'd discover another star in the absence of Matthews. A moment like this is when an organization finds what they're made of, and so far at least, the leafs are made of shit.
